1) length of course (number of quizzes) and number of assignments, which are available to look at once you are signed up
*and example is ENGL 305: Advanced Technical Writing which has 116 quizzes and 1 assignment,

You need to complete ENGL 305 before August 25, 2022 or you will have 3 assignments.  Reference here to show the course is going from 1 assignment to 3.
https://support.study.com/support/soluti...ng-courses

(and some of the assignments for some Study courses are visible without signing up.  you may not get the rubric, but you'll see the assignment)

agreeing with the general advice on how to select courses, just adding some time critical information about Eng 305.

I would take the practice exam for both Saylor courses. If you can get a grade of 80-90% or more without studying, I'd say go with that one.

Hi rachel83az I haven't done anything with Saylor so I am not too familiar. How do you access the practice exam? I created an account. I looked at the course page but don't see anything about practice exams. Do I need to enroll in the course to access the practice exam? Is there a limit to how many courses I can enroll in at one time like Sopia.org? Can I drop a course if I decide not to do it? Thanks in advance for the info.

There is no obligation for you to finish a Saylor course, if it turns out not to be right for you. Yes, you can enroll in as many (or as few) as you want. I have several courses open myself, not sure how many I will or will not test out of.

I was incorrect in calling it a "practice exam". Saylor courses have two exams: the "certificate" exam and the "direct credit" exam. For the certificate exam:

Quote:Certificate Final Exam
Take this exam if you want to earn a free Course Completion Certificate.

To receive a free Course Completion Certificate, you will need to earn a grade of 70% or higher on this final exam. Your grade for the exam will be calculated as soon as you complete it. If you do not pass the exam on your first try, you can take it again as many times as you want, with a 7-day waiting period between each attempt.

Once you pass this final exam, you will be awarded a free Course Completion Certificate.

If you can pass the certificate exam with a score of about 90%, you should be good for the Direct Credit exam. Even though the Direct Credit exams only require 70% to pass, they are usually more difficult than the Certificate exam. Since you can only take the Direct Credit exams 3x each, you want to be as sure as possible that you will pass.
