Hennepin Technical College
- Offers three or four test dates a month (now on a four-day work week)
- Testing Fee just increased from $15 to $20
- Great atmosphere. There is a separate room for CLEP testing, and never have I had to test with more than three other people at once (for most of my tests I was alone!)
- Offers only CLEPs
- Five minutes from home

Soon I'll be checking out my local DSST center, which is 20 to 25 minutes away.

California Coast University - Distance Learning Accelerated Degree Programs for Mid-career Adults
Days/Times: Monday through Friday from 8:30AM - 2:00PM.
Fees: $30.00 registration fee per examination (in addition to the test fee)
$70.00 per CLEP test, $80.00 per DSST test.
The website says that you need to present valid government-issued ID (such as a driver's license or passport) before each examination, but in actuality you only need to present it the first time you take a test there; after that the test administrator never asks for it because she recognizes you.
The waiting room is very quiet (save for the secretary who sometimes answers phone calls) but once you are led through the door into the main office, there's a bunch of things going on. However, you never have to take an exam with anyone else with you in the room; there is only 1 testing computer in the CBT room and once the door is shut behind you, you are on your own. There will be noise with the employees answering telephone calls, but never fear, there is a large jar of quality earplugs for your testing convenience, if you wish to use them.
The best part about this testing center is that they do allow food and drink in the testing center even though the website says they don't. just make sure you have it in a bag or a bottle and you can take it in with you. no coffee or tea in paper cups are allowed in as they are very easy to spill.
After you complete your test and would like a printout of it for your records simply ask the test administrator and she will print it out for you.
Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.

I have tested in so many places my head hurts just thinking about it. The best of the best for DSST exams is Devry University, Addison, Illinois campus. There is no proctor fee and very flexible scheduling by direct email to the testing center. I was usually able to schedule same day appointments. They will be offering CLEP in the near future. If you are not in Illinois, other Devry campus locations may be worth checking. Contact info is below:

Devry University in the Sherman Oaks Galleria (Ventura and Sepulveda) offers free Dantes and CLEP exams.
Georgeann is very helpful and patient in proctering these. You can reach her at: 818.932.3102.
She offers tests for non-Devry students from Tues-Fri on the first two weeks of the month. The only 'catch' is that before you begin testing, you have to agree to meet with a Devry Counselor and they will try to get you to enroll. I enthusiastically told the woman I met with that this testing out process was so perfect for me because some of why I didn't finish college is because I do independent study well, but get bored in a classroom as I am usually way ahead of the class. After I said that, our 'interview' was over!
They even validate your parking!

Let me begin by expressing my near jealousy at those who have a Starbucks or Cold Stone on site. Not fair.
DSST - Midwestern State University - Wichita Falls, TX
Make appointment in advance, by phone. Nice, professional staff. $85 total, paid by check, cash or money order. Free parking. Video cameras present and easily noticed. You are being filmed. Locker available.
They also administer CLEP but we have a closer facility for those exams.
Mall, Sam's, Starbucks, Sonic, Chili's, Kohl's and such within an easy drive.

There may be other options in Anchorage, but these are the two I have direct experience with for CLEP/DSST. (My Praxis exams were at a place I'd never heard of before.)
Wayland Baptist University - Parkside Campus
CLEP and DSST offered by appointment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:30 am, 1 pm, and 2:30 pm, except school holidays. Proctor fee is $20, cash or check. Exam proctoring available, but the municipal library is open on weekends, so I've typically tested at the library for course exams.
Scheduling availability is variable depending on the time of year. High volume of military traffic, so the center is occasionally crowded, but remains quiet.
The testing center is in a computer lab. The proctor checks in one or two students at a time, so on heavy use days, the check-in process can take a minute. Overall, a very laid-back, low hassle testing center - and my preferred center.
Plenty of free parking at the Parkside facility.
University of Alaska Anchorage - University Center Extension
CLEP, DSST, and exam proctoring on a walk-in basis during "Open Lab Hours," which vary over the course of each semester. Proctor fees vary by exam; CLEP is $20, DSST $15. Students must pick up a testing slip from Advising and Testing, take the slip to the cashier cage to pay, return to Advising and Testing with the slip and receipt, have these stamped by Advising and Testing, then continue to the testing check-in room.
There are two computer labs in the testing center; the proctor will select a computer for the student and set up the exam. The single software crash I've had in my testing adventures occurred here and was remedied quickly.
Adequate free parking immediately adjacent, additional parking available in the main mall lot. Coffee shop, deli, furniture, and natural foods grocer available in the same building.

Strayer University proctors tests during the week at 3:30 PM and on Sundays at 1:30 PM. Very convenient hours for people working full time! The cost is $20 for proctoring plus the $72 for CLEP tests. They also proctor DSST. Look them up online as they have several locations to choose from.
