Thank you, thank you, thank you instantcert and forum members. If I had not stumbled upon this site a year ago I would still be studying for the ECE Gerontology exam and trying to get up the nerve to take the test. Instead I have passed 12 exams for a total of 47 credits! I have just finished my Health Studies Capstone at COSC and am now just waiting for my degree. The best advice I received from you all was to just start testing and get as much out of the way as possible before applying, grouping test with overlapping content, and taking speech at BYU.
I wanted to share my experience with COSC for those who are considering going there. I chose COSC because they awarded me 16 credits for my LPN license (TESC gives 0 credits), they do not have the statistics requirement that Excelsior has, they give two GPA's; one for credits transferred in, and one for courses taken with them and finally because I like their name!
Cornerstone course: This course is a lot like going to the dentist; it's expensive and can be painful at times but it is worth it in the end, especially if you plan to go on to grad school. I would recommend that you review the 5 paragraph essay BEFORE starting this class. You will have to take a timed, computer generated writing test with instant grading. If you do not score well you will be dropped from the course and put in a remedial writing class, this happened to a friend of mine.
Capstone class: This was basically more writing practice. Lot's of postings and 5, 10, and 15 page papers are required. I was stressing about this but it really was not that bad. You absolutely can take the Cornerstone and Capstone course in the same semester, just beware that not every Capstone course is offered every term.
I have to say I am very pleased with Charter Oak's customer service. My many emails to various departments have always been answered within 24 hours and usually much quicker. My academic adviser, PP, was very knowledgeable and helpful. However I am most impressed with the fact that they ran the Health Studies Capstone class and I was the only student taking it! I am still blown away by that and am very grateful that I did not have to wait to take the course when more students were enrolled.
So that's it in a nutshell. Thanks again to those who take the time to post and by doing so make Instanctert Forums a great place to get encouragement and sound advice.
