Hello everyone , this is my first time posting, I hope to get your help, thank you!
I have a question, if I fail a class at umpi, can I still transfer in from outside?
For example, if I took BUS245 at umpi and failed it, can I still take the Google Data Analytics certificate from coursera and transfer in to replace BUS245?
Thank you!

It is my understanding that, yes, you could still transfer in an outside course (provided you got permission first). However, this would not improve your GPA or wipe out the failure on your transcript. You would also still need to complete at least 30 credits from UMPI.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

A fail at UMPI will impact your GPA, even if you do transfer a course in from outside. This would be true of any school, the F would remain as part of the overall school GPA. Generally retaking a course at a school and passing would be the better option. If you're really concerned about this topic, you may want to try the transfer credits path first - the certificate won't effect your GPA at all, and you get to add it to your resume as a bonus when it is complete.

Make sure to talk this over with your advisor to see exactly how this will impact you. When I was in college years ago, I took a course too soon and earned a D. I retook the course my senior year and did much better. My transcript shows both attempts. And the lower grade *is* factored into my GPA. You will want to know exactly how the school handles these grades.

Yes, the policy is completely at the school's discretion. Having the new grade remove the fail from your GPA is common, but it is almost never actually removed from your transcript. Also, just because the school removes it from your calculated GPA is no guarantee that another school won't evaluate your transcript by their own rules and include that fail, anyway.

As others have said, you can transfer it in but that is not recommended when you fail the class.
I failed one class at UMPI because I got confused about the deadline and then retook it. The new grade was the only one that was factored into the GPA, although the F still remained on the transcript.
CLEP - 7 Courses, Study.com - 11 Courses, Sophia - 15 Courses, CSM Learn, INSTANTCERT - Spanish I, Coursera - Google Data Analytics Certificate.

@Leo Wu, I'm not sure how you have your commitments and time management setup to allow a maximum or more effective/efficient way of completing your courses at UMPI. Generally you need at least a B to get a passing grade, everything else is a fail, or if you can't complete required assignments, that would be a fail. Essentially, you want to make sure to allocate your energy/time so you have enough to spend on these courses. Pace yourself, don't rush into completing too many courses if you can't handle them... Good luck and have fun!

Yes you can take it elsewhere, however, your failing grade will always be on your transcript and calculated into your GPA. If you repeat it at UMPI, only the second grade is calculated in your GPA.
