Transferring Grad School Credits
#1
Has anyone transferred Grad School credits before and what seems to be the process? Catalogs, syllabus, or just transcripts?

Into another grad school or into an undergraduate program?

I asked this question to COSC a while ago. What they told me was that graduate credits could transfer in as long as you weren't using them towards that graduate degree at that graduate program. They said it couldn't double count, so if you applied them towards COSC, you couldn't apply it at the graduate program (which doesn't really make much sense since how would the graduate program even know or care).

Thank you. I'm looking for info regarding graduate credit for graduate credit. So transcript should suffice?

It depends on your school and the courses. If you are trying to transfer Multivariate Analysis of Variance and Correlation as a substitute for Correlation and Multivariate Analysis of Variance, the transcript may suffice. If the title of the course is something quite generic like Statistics, then you might need to supply a syllabus.

Be sure to check with the school you plan to attend for graduate school. Some of them will accept graduate credit transfers, but generally limit the number of graduate credits transferred to less than 9 credits - at least from what I've seen. I was looking into this because I was considering doing the dual bachelors to masters program at TESC, or at least gaining a few graduate credits through them and then transferring. The more I thought about it though, the better it seemed to just do all of the graduate credits though the same school as many programs so I didn't miss anything that might be a major foundation for future courses.

I think the answer is "it depends" and the way grad credit transfers isn't necessarily different than undergrad, it's more a question of willingness. As you know, graduate programs usually only consist of about 10 classes, and for many schools, they're not going to let you out of any of those. There are a handful of schools that allow you to transfer a few, but that list is pretty small. As such, the school will determine for themselves IF you can transfer, and if you can (be thankful) what hoops will be required. I think sending a transcript would be the opening process. They may, at that point, decide they want more information or decide it's a match. It's just too hard to say a general answer when the number of variables are all over the place.

Thank you. I think all of these answers are very good. Basically apply and see who accepts the most. The more snobby the school the more difficult it would be to transfer in. I've experienced this with my undergrad transcripts not all schools are the same. Thanks everyone.
