My daughter is taking CH 227, 228, and 229 (6 credits each with Lab) three straight at the University of Oregon and they BRAG about flunking 400 students this year in Sophomore CHEM alone.:ack: University does NOT mean a better education. It just reinforces my opinion that the UofO is a waste of time the first two years.banghead
I live in Oregon. U of O has a bad reputation with long-term Oregonians, and tend to have a good one with Californians and wealthy families. In other words, that school is highly cultural. If I was a hiring agency, and wanted to break all sorts of ethics, among other things, I would hire OSU grads over U of O grads, lol. Mostly because a lot of them are picked up by Intel, and I'm sick living around that culture of elitism.
Long story short, I am not shocked by U of O doing what you stated. They are not exactly that cost-effective, either. I went to Pacific University for a semester. Nice place, but the elite university lifestyle is not worth the cost, unless the connections are worth it.

Mostly, but someone has to do it. Textbooks need up to date research and many universities are involved in medical research that saves lives. The government gives research grants for a reason. Students also should read research articles and use them as sources for their papers.
