Using Health Science degree for nursing prereqs?
#1
Lightbulb
I am considering becoming an RN. I will likely enroll in a local community college.

Now that UofPeople is RA, is anyone considering using the Health Science degree as a cheap way of knocking out a bunch of science credits? Obviously I would have to check with the college to see if the credits would transfer.

Most likely, no. The sciences you're referring to are Bio, Chem, Physics, etc, not really Health Sciences. Thus, Health Science, the classes won't go into the Natural Sciences categories. You can transfer in the credits as they're RA, but they'll only go into the electives or general education fields. They do have a Bio I, Bio II for Health Science majors, this may be used for other Science Majors too, otherwise, for the majority of the classes, unless those classes can transfer for a specific requirement, they'll go into electives.

I wonder if someone will take a few NA health courses on that other inexpensive online university that is sometimes talked about in the forum (forgot the name), sign up for bachelors health science and transcript the courses from both universities.

You could go after the health sciences degree then do a second accelerated bachelors of nursing which usually takes 12-18 months. Or if your looking at becoming a prescriber you can take the health sciences and then Harvard extension PA or Dr program I'm sure there are other pre-PA/Dr programs out there.

+1, I agree. Yes, you can do the UoPeople B. Health Sciences and then do the Accelerated BSN at TESU... If your ultimate goal is to get into nursing, you'll have to be a nurse before you go branching into higher fields of nursing. Get your nursing complete first, see if WGU has an accelerated nursing program and also check other institutions we have on the WIKI.
