I edit pretty much everything I post... I like to look at it after it's submitted before I check for spelling and grammatical errors... I suppose I could just hit "preview post" but meh.

I'm still pretty much blown away by any waitstaff who would be so rude, much less to soldiers. I actually had a really great time yesterday.. was on the way home and had to sit in the airport for several hours. The bar was totally full and the soldiers ended up sitting with me. I don't know too many people that are military, and these guys were on their way home, hadn't been back in the US for a year. It was so interesting hearing their stories. (And sorry DH if you read this, but wow they were cute too... I love a uniform lol)
Anyhow.. so the waitress was totally uncalled for. She was loud too and after she complained, there was a huge moment of awkward silence. A couple of the soldiers looked so upset, but of course way too polite to say anything. Anyhow.. now just trying to forget about that crazy waitress and remember that I had a great time while stuck in the airport.

cookderosa Wrote:My two cents says that since this waitress clearly has poor social and professional skills, she probably doesn't get a lot of tips anyway. A hundred years ago I used to train professional wait-staff (the people who are servers on purpose, make it their life's work, and have an enormous level of pride), and I assure you no professional server would ever EVER discuss gratuity on the floor. This gal sounds like a default waitress...in other words she's doing it because she can't do anything else. Those folks are bitter workers and loud complainers.hilarious my teacher always uses that expression...and she's not even that old

One time in an airport bar/restaurant I was waiting for my flight in uniform having some food and a few beers... A completely random couple paid for my tab without me knowing.
They asked the bartender not to say anything to me until after they left, they didn't want a thank you or anything, because they were long gone by the time the bartender told me... they just paid for my meal and left. Was very generous of them, and they looked pretty young too.

Ma2 it's the least they can do.
I like stories like this. That waitress probably doesn't like american foreign policy so she takes it out on the military.

the waitress should not have talked so loud, but she does have a right to complain.
those tips are her income, how she keeps a roof over her head and food in her belly............ regardless of the customers she is serving.

HOW they earn it is through manners, excellence, and graciousness. A desperate, grumpy, bitter server with an entitlement attitude should get an hourly job where the quality of their behavior isn't an issue. Servers ARE paid a base, the tip is for you to demonstrate how well they did. Her roof and her food, not the obligation of the customer. :nopity:
