West Virginia University Parkersburg BOG AAS
#11
Board of Governors Associate of Applied Science
This degree requires 60-credit hours and must be the first associate degree earned. The structure of the degree assures flexibility in program design to meet the individual needs of adult students. The required general education courses assure the development of essential skills and competencies necessary for an associate degree level graduate.

Sorry, Steve. Every WV BOG and RBA I looked at have a "first degree requirement".

Out of curiosity, why are you so fascinated with these degrees allowing students with prior degrees?

I would say "curious" rather than "so fascinated", but the reason is that I've long thought it would be neat to go back and finish an Associate degree in music someday, since that what I started out studying when I first went to college mumblty-mumble years ago.
BS, Information Systems concentration, Charter Oak State College
MA in Educational Technology Leadership, George Washington University

That would be super neat.

I really fell in love with the WV BOG and RBA system. They're such good programs. I wish other states would follow their lead. I think it would go a long way toward helping a lot of Americans. I find myself daydreaming about ways to sneak in an RBA before I'm ineligible. WVRocks would help some, but it would be too much money for a degree of that type when I'm one class away at COSC. I just kind of want to do it to support them for all the good work they are doing.

I guess I could always make a donation to Pierpont and call it a day.

Does West Virginia University have a good reputation?

I was thinking about Parkersburg over Pierpont but the negative is that (1) it does require one course which costs money and time and (2) it doesn't offer an area of emphasis.

I guess I need a bit of a more compelling reason to choose WVU. Reputation would help.

It depends on what you need it for, IMO. WVU is a university and that might be considered "better" than "just" a technical college by some people. But it's still only an Associate degree. If you're not in West Virginia, I doubt that most employers will know or care about the difference between WVU and Pierpont when it comes to Associate degrees.

WVU has a fine reputation, but keep in mind that WVU Parkersburg is independent from WVU and is a wholly separate institution, despite its name.

WVU Parkersburg I assume is unknown outside of West Virginia. But many people will probably assume a relation to WVU, so I guess that's a plus.

Hmm... Before you decide on WVU vs Pierpont, you may want to review your earlier thread, is this for yourself? Do you already have the AA and BA mentioned in that thread? Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-PIED-MONT-cost

Technically it's not allowed, you may want to refrain from this journey - if you already have an AA/BA combo, the added AAS won't really do too much for you (yes, even if you can get it for practically free, with the exception of pay for the transcripts).

An AAS degree is not something I would worry about "reputation" for. It's a 2-year degree.  Nobody will care about the reputation.
