What overlaps with Human Growth and Development?

Hello everyone!!

I am about ready to sit for the Human growth and development clep. I have been going over the flash cards for almost a month, and think that I might do pretty OK on the test. My question is this - can I knock off another test on the same day with info from this preparation? Is there an overlap between this test and an other one like educational psychology??? Sorry if this has been asked before. Many thanks)

There is some overlap with educational psychology, but educational psychology also has a lot of overlap with introductory psychology. I wouldn't recommend taking educational psychology without going through the flashcards at least once. Since I have already taken several psychology courses and passed several psychology tests, I only spent a few hours studying for educational psychology and scored pretty high. You have to know about teaching techniques and theories that aren't covered in the HG&D flashcards. You also have to know a little more about statistics.

You helped me out about 3 weeks ago for my CLEP test (Intro to Psych -- which I passed ).

I'm taking my last exam next week. What would you recommend, Educational Psych or Growth and Development?

I just wanted to say that after reviewing the Specific Feedback Thread, I believe Human Growth and Development has way much more overlap than Educational Psych.

I was mentally prepared to start studying Educational Psych but I think the Specific Feedback has just changed my mind.

Any suggestions, advises are welcome.

I never took Human Growth and Development; I took Lifespan Developmental Psychology. LDP is supposed to be the easier DSST equivalent to the HG&D CLEP. I think I scored a 60-something on the LDP test and a 70 on Educational Psychology. It depends on the individual, but the Educational Psychology test is ranked as being easier than the HG&D test.

CLEP intro to Sociology has some overlap with the Psychology series, the DSST Counseling is in that genre as well.

I thought I was already decided for HG&D, but after visiting those links, now I'm back to square one.

You have to realize those list of difficult exams are based on someone having a business background. I know nothing about business and would find those level 1's much harder. On the other hand I would put HG&D as a 2 and some of the others at different levels too. It depends on what your area of study and interest are. you need to decide which one will be easier for you.

Thank you Linda. I perfectly understand what you mean.

I believe it was yours one of the Specific Feedback I read that made me decide to go for HG&D instead of Educational Psychology.

In fact, I just went through 3 flashcards sections for HG&D and I feel like I'm reviewing what I studied 3 weeks ago for Intro to Psychology, plus other new concepts that I actually find interesting (compared to a few flashcards sections from Educ. Psych I went through); so by now, I'm pretty confident that HG&D is my next and HOPEFULLY LAST CLEP exam.

I passed HG&D last Friday December 9th with a 52. Yes, It was a hard test (at least for me).

Just wanted to say thank you for your help and replies.

Oh, and yes, I'M DONE!!
