What's the format of TESU courses?
#1
Hello everyone,

I'm planning to register for COS-206 (R Programming) at TESU and since this is my first course, I had a couple of questions about the course structure for those of you who have taken classes at TESU before. I don't know if things change on course by course basis, but in general, can 12-week courses be completed in less time, or is it a fixed schedule? Also, are there any hard deadlines for assignments that I should be aware of? I'm asking this because I'm planning to register for a course on the Jan 1st - March 24th term, but I already have a couple weeks of vacation planned during that time.

Thanks in advance!

Most courses have assignment deadlines, though the teacher will probably Grant you extensions if you need(and ask ahead of time). The hard deadline would be the last day of the class when everything would be due(unless you pay for a course extension). Some teachers may not dock you for late assignments but it really will vary between courses and teachers.

Btw, statistics.com has an R programming class that is ace approved and transfers to tesu and is cheaper than tesu's offerings. I don't know much about it, but you may want to look into it.

Fixed schedule. Very little flexibility to work ahead. Exams don't unlock until it's time and even if you turn assignments in early, you can't count on the mentor grading them until after the due date. Sometimes future modules are not even unlocked to view much ahead of time, or the mentor will wait to post specific advice/requirements until the class gets to the module.

If you find yourself behind, be sure to notify the mentor BEFORE you miss an assignment deadline. The mentor can grant you an extension in that scenario, but if you miss the due date first, school policy requires them to dock points. If you cannot get all the work done before the course end date, you have to request (and pay for) a course extension.

When I took courses at TESU, each week had requirements- forum posts, reading, etc. with deadlines. You might be able to use your vacation to work ahead if your instructor posts upcoming assignments.
