What's your average TECEP score?
#1
I'm curious what the average TECEP score is. With ProctorU they give a number at the end, but don't specify if its the number answered correctly or the percent answered correctly. For this reason, I'm only interested in the results of people who have taken TECEPs requiring 60 of 100 questions to be answered correctly.

I'm asking this because the questions often seem odd & many aren't specifically covered by the texts. Twice I've taken TECEPs & while I passed, I was disappointed with my score since I study for months. I'm just wondering if maybe my scores are average though, & the questions are just abnormally difficult for the majority of test takers.

The poll will not disclose your username, just the number that was voted.

What do you mean by disappointed with your score? Disappointed that you overstudied and thus wasted your time? Or is your score being converted into a letter grade lower than what you want?

TECEPs grades are the amount of correct answers on the MC exam. TECEPs are more difficult than generalized CLEP/DSST exams.

I feel like for the amount of time I spend studying (months), I'm not scoring as high number-wise as what I'd like to be.

I just ran some numbers for the Psychology of Women PSY-270 TECP based on scores people have posted here. The 6 scores were:

64, 69, 73, 73, 73, 74

The average is 71, & throwing out the highest/lowest score the average is 72. I scored slightly higher than the averages (my own score was calculated into this), but I spent months studying, whereas many of the people stating their scores didn't seem to study at all or only read half of the textbook. Based on that, I don't think my studying is really paying off. However I still think this could be because the questions asked often don't seem to be covered by the textbook, so the tests rely more on hard knowledge gained elsewhere.

For PSY270 I scored a 73. (I wonder if those 73s are persons who also used my study notes...LOL) I studied for about 2 weeks - read over my notes, the chapter summaries, and read over chapter 2 in depth since it was on gender (25% of the exam when I tested).

I don't necessarily agree with your assessment, I think everything on the exam was covered in the textbook. At least the questions I remembered missing I looked up easily when I got home. It just may have been what you thought was an unimportant fact at the time you read through the book. (Ex, rates or percentages.) I recall a specific question on retiring women in the workforce that I thought was out of leftfield. Things will be overlooked; you can't be expected to remember every fact in a textbook. Also keep in mind the TECEP is a comprehensive exam that covers a full semester. You should be proud that you passed at all instead of worrying about the point spread. As long as you use the test description sheet as your foundation to set up your study guide, you are more likely to pass the exam.

It has been my experience that all TESC exams are set up this way (OL, GS, ePack, TECEP). Topics covered in the class mixed with textbook minutiae. The midterm and finals are basically the same. Many midterms have a reputation of being very difficult. Depending on the subject, finals can also be brutal; but after the painful midterm, you have a better idea on what to study.

I believe I used your notes to study. I converted all of the chapters to MP3s, & listened to them multiple times along with actually reading all of the chapter summaries. I also used the online crossword puzzles & flashcards that go with the book. One question I specfically remember that was odd asked which of three females would be happier with her life, but that was not covered in the text. I think its really subjective, & without knowing more info - it seems impossible to even be able to guess at.

In comparison I read the abnormal psychology book from front to back, but scored better on the psychology of women exam studying slightly less.

Is that the one where employed women are healthier and happier in life? (Chap 7)

Grandmother (p468)
Perfect example of minutiae. Regardless I would have still chosen Grandma, just makes sense.
