Your experience at California Coast University? Interested in $21k doctorate.

The reason some threads go somewhat off-topic is because the topic itself doesn't draw many (or any) people to add directly to the very specifics of it, so adjacent discussions happen. In this case, there just aren't many (if any) students of California Coast University watching this board. If there are few or no responses, the thread falls away and nothing ever gets answered. But at least if there is some discussion in a thread, a thread may stay visible just long enough for someone who has actually gone to the school to chime in on their experience, so there is a positive side to it.

I'll agree that the discussion I and Duneranger had went off enough, but that's done now.

That said, the matters brought up by myself and Sanantone are relevant to the topic. It directly applies to the degree from the school the OP is asking about in the state where the school exists, it is useful information, including licensure and the accreditation matter both of which should always be mentioned when discussing a licensable field since the OP is not the only person on earth who will be reading the thread, and because the OP may not have been aware of those matters which could affect their decision:

Exactly. That is why bringing up licensure and accreditation is relevant, because one can never be sure about what they will want to do in the future, so they should be made aware of these things.

I don't see that the OP expressed a potential interest in a regulated field, but another member mentioned that they were interested in the educational psychology program. Because of that, it doesn't hurt to mention the potential limitations because others might see this thread and become interested in California Coast University's educational psychology program.

Even for the OP, future utility should also be considered because people change their minds. Over the years, we've had new members come here with degrees they got just to check the box or to say they have a degree, but they ended up regretting it because they couldn't use the degree for a particular employer, career, license, transfer credits, or admission to another program. So, I agree with you there.

I mentioned that at one point I was interested in their Educational Psychology program to show the OP that had some knowledge of CalCoast. Never did I mention I was interested in licensure. At this point I know what I am getting myself into.

I don't need the degree, but I want one for myself and my own credentials. My area is business that focuses on publishing for children. I'm mostly hoping to find degrees like a DBA or PhD in Business, but I found my way to this school https://www.calcoast.edu/ed.d.-doctor-of...rship.html California Coast University. $320 a unit for 66 units for an EdD in Organizational Leadership...well, the price is attractive and the degree is aligned enough to what I do in a sense I can make it work. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Also welcoming any recs on programs to consider. I did also look at UofCumberlands but they're up to 36k which, as another underpaid pub professional (tongue in cheek, I LOVE my work, though I'm aware we have a rep for being low paid lol), is a huge chunk of my salary.

Thanks!

You may be better off going somewhere else. I cannot speak to their bachelors or masters programs, but I am in the doctoral programs, and they are not worth the $21k

Thank you for sharing! Could you tell us more about the program, and what aspects you don't think are worth it and what if anything it gets right?

Basically, I'm also curious why Cal Coast isn't worth the $21K... They're somewhat on the less expensive side at the doctoral level, even though they're NA. Only a handful of RA institutions are at the same price range for doctoral studies...

I just decided to drop out of CalCoast EdD Education Psychology after 4 years and 35 credits. I wouldn't do it again Sad

Too much focus on writing, could not get past feedback comments that kept making no sense. Got frustrated...

A doctoral program has a lot of writing? In other news, water is wet.

I meant *irrelevant* writing with *real crappy* feedback. 99.99% of the program is writing essays on random topics.

Yes, water is wet. Swampy water is no fun anyone wanting to get wet Big Grin

Sorry I just saw this. It is not worth the time. There is very little education that goes on. I have written for numerous trade, technical, and scientific journals, yet I was told I do not write like a doctor. I spent another $10K to take a writing program to teach me how to write like a doctor.

They will literally tell you, follow the prompts, look at the examples and replicate those (they do provide examples of what they want). That doesn't prepare you at all.

There is no interaction between the staff and the students. When I took my masters, the professors and the department heads wanted you to succeed. They interacted with you, they took a genuine interest in your success. There was not only a teacher/student relationship there was a mentor relationship as well.

If you can copy and paste the format they require you can pass the courses.
