I need help - what do you do when you're having an emotional breakdown from being overwhelmed with too many things...or remembering your past memories which are not here anymore, past experiences when people hurt you etc.?

Read some of Psalms. There's comfort in those verses that cannot be matched by anything else on earth. :o

First of all, don't feel bad. I have broken down a few times in the past few months and yes it is overwhelming. I know how you feel!!
My response is going to be a little less positive than the really good advice that 15% luck posted. In fact, I'm embarrassed to admit what I do when I really don't think I can get through a class or a subject. I just think of the dumbest person I know that has a degree and think "If they can do it, I can do it better, even if it's not easy."
A couple of other things you can do. First of all, walk away. Can you take a ten minute break? Is there something that you can do to make you laugh? Do you have time to go work out?
I do some or all of the above and then also have a drink but you're too young so don't do that!
Edit to add: yoga, facebook, call a friend, watch a movie or even a 30 minute sitcom. Most of all forgive yourself for anything bad you've done and move on. No one is perfect.

I don't think I need any work out with my weight...(100 lbs.)
I can't think of anyone who already has their degree and is dumber than me.
The reason this came up was because exactly 6 yrs ago, when I was 12 and a half, my dad passed away out of no where- just didn't wake up one morning
and also because I'm just getting so annoyed with my Biology CLEP banghead
I can't afford to take many breaks because I barely study: I keep getting distracted. I guess the best thing I can do is call a friend or, like 15%Luck said, read Psalms. Thanks

That is really sad. Hang in there.. you can get through this.
If it makes you feel better, I get very distracted when I study. That's why I have so many posts. I study for a few minutes, post, study, go on facebook, study. I didn't used to have concentration issues, but I do now. It doesn't mean you aren't learning. It's just a different learning style.
I don't know you and I can say I know people that are dumber than you with a degree. Trust me. There's a lot of them and you'll meet them in the work world.
I hope you feel better.

A guy walks into a bar and says "ouch."
A guy walks into a bar and says "mmm. chocolate."
A guy walks into a bar and passes the exam.
By the way, of all of the most intelligent people that I have ever met, NONE of them have degrees. Of all of the least intelligent people that I have ever met, SEVERAL of them have degrees.
Not all degrees are useful anyway. There are some people who have six degrees that have amounted to nothing and some people with dozens of degrees and still can't write a decent lyric.
Just keep this in mind: you are not more intelligent nor competent the day of conferral than the day before.

I have nothing profound to say, but as a Dad I can guarantee that your Father would be proud of the effort you are putting in to getting an education and the young woman you are becoming. Hang in there...it will get better.

For what it's worth, I generally feel most emotionally "fragile" when I A) haven't been eating right or B) haven't been getting enough sleep.
This might sound lame, but I'd try to get in bed by 10:00 a few nights and sleep at least 8-10 hours. I'd also cut out all refined or heavy starch foods (white bread, potatoes, pasta), caffeine, and sugar (soft drinks, desserts, Starbucks, sugary cereals/muffins, fruit) for a couple of days and stick to whole grains, vegetables (especially green ones), and protein (meat, nuts, etc). Protein in particular is a "brain food." Some extra-healthy eating for a few days might give your body a chance to take a breath and regroup, which in turn gives your emotional state a significant boost.
BTW, working out has nothing to do with weight. Exercise is a huge stress reliever. You don't have to go down to the gym, but I would try to go on at least a 30-minute walk every day.
Also, try not let your mind dwell on the negative. The more you think about past painful memories or about how stressed/frustrated you are, the worse it will get. Deliberately choose to put your mind on other things. Turn on some pretty music and think about how much you love your cat or something. *pets my kitty who is purring on my lap*
Hang in there! You'll make it! We're all pulling for you!

I think we all go through these type of days. I was having some pretty down days over the last couple months. You start thinking about past stuff, your stressed about what needs to get done and how you're going to do it. It just wares your body down emotionally, mentally and physically. That makes it even harder to study and thus you get a kind of chain reaction effect. I've read the posts of others on here and find them helpful and encouraging.
When you have low moments I think it comes down to just reigniting your goals and vision. The past will impair your future if you let it take over your thoughts. I find that the most encouraging moments happen when I just come out and say that I can't handle it and just "give it to Jesus". He just wants to keep our reliance upon him and not our own flesh.
Just my little 2 cents.
