clep credit help fast plssss
#1
hello all, am new to this but i have been reading for a little over a week....i have been out of school for a little over 10 years and only earned 18 credits. at this point i need a total of 39 credits for my career goal i have in mind and i need the rest of my credits fast, which brings me to taking some clep tests...but am not sure how this works exactly.....can i actually add clep credits earned with my 18 credits earned years ago? do i have to be enrolled in school now to earn clep credits? how does clep provide the credits? does it look like a transcript and show credits earned? these questions are probably silly to some here and will probably come up with even more silly questions but really, i need to know this wont be a waste of time and money.

Need more info here...

Will any credits do? Or do you need credits in something specific like Math or English?

Yes, but you would not want to take a CLEP that would possibly duplicate a course you have already taken.

do i have to be enrolled in school now to earn clep credits?

No. You can take them prior to enrolling in any college. So go ahead and start.

how does clep provide the credits?

You select where you would like your transcript sent for that test when you take it. For example if you think you may eventually enroll at Excelsior you can have them sent there even though you are not enrolled. You can also have your CLEP tests(Transcripts sent to any college at a later time for a small fee. I think it's around $15 but may be off a little. It is up to each college that sets it's own policy as to which exams they accept for college credit. Some brick and morter colleges have a limit on how many are allowed also.

does it look like a transcript and show credits earned?

It's up to the college you end up going to that will grant the credits for each test. They will be listed on your transcript at your college you select as a CLEP test.

Just a quick point here. I'd suggest you check with the college you plan to attend to inquire if they accept the specific CLEP exams you plan to complete.
Keep in mind, CLEP testing is simply a method for demonstrating your mastery of a given subject and not a shortcut for skipping the education part. Unless you have time for self education study, your best bet is to select subjects that you are familiar with and pick up credit for what you already know.

You may also want to check out DSST Dantes testing.

Best of luck to you!

I aggree. Do your research first. Make sure the institution takes the CLEPS/DSSTs, and they WILL apply to your specific degree. This program is outstanding. Just make sure you don't waste time on courses you cannot use etc.. Break a LegCool
