edX MBA: Boston University - $24,000
#1
Thumbs Up
edX has announced their latest Masters program partnership, an MBA program with Boston University Questrom School of Business. It costs about $24,000 (45cr, $533/cr)

https://www.edx.org/masters/online-maste...t_20190726

Quote:Application requirements
A full MBA program application includes the following:
 • An undergraduate Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution with evidence of good to high performance
 • Transcripts from all universities attended
 • Recommended 3+ years of work experience
 • Online recorded interview
 • A professional resume
 • A Personal Statement
 • One recommendation from previous or current employer
 • TOEFL: Required for international students only

*Applicants are NOT required to submit GRE or GMAT scores with their applications.

The courses seem to be 9cr "modules" instead of traditional 3cr classes.

Quote:Curriculum
The BU Questrom Online MBA requires 45 credit hours of coursework. The program is comprised of five 9-credit semester-long integrated modules.

Full curriculum breakdown:
 • Pre-Term Orientation (0 credit)
 • Creating Socially Responsible Businesses in the Digital Age (9 credits)
 • Data-Driven Decision Making (9 credits)
 • Leading with Integrity (9 credits)
 • Leveraging Global Business Opportunities (9 credits)
 • Developing the Innovative Mindset (9 credits)

Modules provide an integrated perspective on the key capabilities that students need to make management decisions in a complex ecosystem, and include exercises that require application of concepts and skills to students’ current jobs. Each module ends with an integrated project. We expect each module will require approximately 9 to 16 hours of work per week.

Any grants or subsidies to bring this down under 10,000? 24,000 is a bit expensive for an mba with no useful networking and a stigma of edx (online) attached to it.

Thanks jsd! I was actually just looking at their programs again too and noticed this newly added one! It's a pretty good price for a well known institution. I noticed the admissions requirements aren't that bad either... I would rather pay this edx amount vs the regular full time price of $76,550! I think you can drop that down to $10K if you have tuition reimbursement from work and also using Federal Aid. Roughly $5K/year from work tuition assistance and after two years, it'll drop the cost down to $14K, and if you get some aid, lets just say if you get a measly $4K, that would drop you down to $10K exactly...

Oh, I think the parchment nor the transcripts will indicate anything related to edX, you're getting the same type of education as the full-time, butt-in-seat counterparts, but the platform or way of doing things is through edX. I don't see a downside to anything, unless i'm missing something here...

Edx is just the lecture delivery platform. The only way someone would even know you watched edx videos during your degree program is if you told them, and I don't really understand why you would

You can get all the bells and whistles for $76,000 assuming you can get. Of course you'll have to go there in order to do useful networking.

$24,000 feels like a bargain, considering.

I think you can probably find a few schools offering MBAs for less than 10 grand, but unless I'm mistaken, I don't think that this thread was meant to be a who's who of cheap. I THINK it was meant to show a way to get an exceptionally prestigious university MBA on your resume by alternative learning and online options. No question an MBA in residence is better, but it's all a matter of what you're looking for and what you're willing to spend.

The biggest issue I have is that they do not allow the online MBA students to utilize the networking opportunities that they do to on campus students. They essentially give the online students their own networking platform and such.

Wait a minute, so they treat these online edX degrees like how Harvard treats the HES? I thought the edX ones were exactly the same as the butt-in-seat versions, just the platform for learning was different. If nothing else is different besides the platform of learning, it's well worth it to take it through partnership with edX or other MOOC providers.

I think he means networking opportunities as in meeting with folks face to face like you would butt-in-seat

Thanks again for the clarification jsd! For some weird reason there, I had a different thought when I was reading his post.
