looking for BSIT, or related BS degree that can be used for Georgia Tech MS

Hi Guys,

I am a non-US citizen currently living overseas... So WGU is out. My ultimate aim is to do the MS Cybersecurity Georgia Tech and would appreciate if I can get experienced helpers to guide me on this.

I am leaning towards Excelsior College due to the UL they given for my IT certifications that I have.

Currently I have completed or have signed up the following courses.

I will move on to study.com to do the rest after completing the in progress courses above. 

I am thinking of doing 12 credits with Excelsior （BSIT with general concentration）to save on the other misc fees, which at the end will cost me between 5k to 5.5k.  Would like to check if I will get GPA at the end since most of the courses are transferred in.

Any guidance is appreciated.. I didnt put TESU or COSC because they seems to need chemistry or bio with lab... which I dont think it is doable from my side.

There are online lab courses. You either do a virtual lab, or you do the lab in your home and upload pictures and/or video. I don't know how strictly they enforce this, but Georgia Tech says that a bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering is required. Excelsior does not offer a computer science program. Georgia will make exceptions if you have relevant work experience.

I have been working in IT industry for over 10 years now. I am thinking of applying for the course, or do the Rochester MicroMaster and move on from there. JSD seems to be able to use his WGU degree for Georgia Tech and I am curious to find out what were the requirements for him.

As for the bachelor, I am thinking of COSC and TESU as well, but I am not sure if they do give UL as generous as Excelsior. My Straighterline membership will end this 27th and I still got 3 subjects to complete, thus I doubt I can squeeze in a lab and finish it in such a short time, anyone has any experience with the Straighterline's bio lab? And if I can do the lab, I think COSC can be another choice for me. TESU seems to need chem 1 and 2 with labs....

Here are the requirements for the OMS Cybersecurity (Info Sec Track -- I have since switched into the Polixu track). I also have about 9 years of experience in the field. If I were to do it over again I'd spend some time brushing up on coding skills and cryptography.

Prerequisites 
For admission into the Information Security Track of the OMS Cybersecurity program, all applicants are expected to have:

• A Bachelor of Science from an accredited institution in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.*
  
  
• A good understanding of computer science fundamentals such as processor architectures, operating systems, and networking protocols.
  
  
• At least one college-level course or equivalent knowledge in discrete mathematics.
  
  
• Strong programming skills.
  
  
• A minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  

*Qualified applicants with other degrees and relevant work experience in cryptography, secure computer systems, and/or network security are also encouraged to apply.

I'm not so sure that TESU requires labs for their programs outside of a few degrees(engineering technology, technical studies, a few others). I never saw mention of lab sciences being required for the BACS or some of the IT degrees at TESU. As far as I know, COSC only requires a single lab science course for their degrees. As mentioned, there are multiple options for lab sciences, the vast majority of the alternative options seem to involve buying a lab kit, doing the experiments on your own and documenting and submitting the results. There are a handful of completely online virtual labs including the bio lab on study.com.

Also, even if excelsior gives you more UL credits, tesu requires less overall, so you'd have to do a side by side comparison to see which is really better. All 3 of the big 3 have their pros and cons.

The BSIT is one of those degrees. It requires Chem I with Lab or Physics I with Lab, as well as Chem II with Lab or Physics II with Lab.

Ok I see it now. I was thinking about the BSBA in CIS.

It seems going for a CS degree and not an IT degree would be seen as more favorable to Georgia tech. And if both degrees require a comparable amount of time, money and effort, then I'd personally, go for the one which is more likely to get me to my goal.

Where are you from? Do you have any international college credits that you are going to transfer or get evaluated? How did you come up with the 5k/5.5k in total cost, or is that the cost at Excelsior alone? If you don't get into the MS Cybersecurity at Georgia Tech, what other option have you come up with? Do you have a backup plan? Would you go for a Bachelors/Masters at the same school? How much are you looking to spend on the Bachelors? Do you get tuition reimbursement? Do you get IT exams reimbursed?

My recommendation is to try the following two schools for their competency programs.
You can take the undergrad/graduate program at the same school or switch things around.
These programs can rival WGU's offerings and at a slightly cheaper or different price point.
