I don't think you are racist for not saying anything.
But the only way to learn much of anything is to ask questions. If you had asked what he meant by that, in a curious but not combative manner, you might have learning something new. You certainly would have at least learned clarity about his intent. But since no questions or discussion happened - there's nothing learned.
I didn't ask because I knew what she meant.
She mentions it a lot in her classes (she's the dean but she also teaches). She claims blacks are stupid, but she's stupid for saying that...

Oh.
Well.
Ahem.
Yeah. That'd make her a stupid donkey butt. (can I say that here?)
And what do her students do when she makes these comments? Is she careful to avoid doing so when blacks are around?
Once? Hey we all need a free pass to be donkey butts occasionally.
Repeatedly? At work? In training/teaching environments? Um. No. That's just begging for ACLU action.

No, it does to me too. I know several professors and they would find it unlikely. Tho they admit stupid donkey butts do exist in academia, usually they aren't so career foolish as to call blacks stupid in class.
But maybe this dean/prof has gotten too comfortable? It happens.

She obviously won't say it straight out but she is a racist.
She feels more comfortable to be saying it to one person than to say it to the whole class, because when she told me about CLEPs she said it straight out that blacks aren't smart and that if they can pass, so can I. While teaching she would make statements which sound racist.
My class has only white females and obviously we all agree her comments are a bit off when we start making comments she just skips to a different topic...
I never liked talking to her I always spoke to her secretaries when I had questions because the dean never answers my questions the way she's supposed to.

A good professor will challenge you and might well take an extreme position in the hope of challenging their students. I don't want to doubt you purple...but I would be very cautious leveling such charges. Even by typing this info on IC you have made a potentially life changing allegation. This is a very serious charge. Your Dean doesn't graduate in a couple of years and get to move on to other things. She is engaged in a mature profession, accusations of rasicm could be career ending. That not to say nothing should be done if the allegation is true...just consider the position you are placing yourself, your school, and this Dean.
I would recommend you go talk with her about your discomfort with her statement(s). Perhaps take Mom or Dad, or at least another student that shares your concerns along and confront the issue. Dissecting such an issue on a public forum is, IMHO, a poor choice.
The proceeding is in no way meant to condone racism by anyone...but my advice to you would be to handle the matter in a mature way in a different envirement. I was once on the recieving end of a false but non the less malicious accusation. It led to the worst 3-4 months of my life and put myself and my family through an emotional wringer. I think by virtue of her office (as Dean) you owe her a chance to explain herself and to self correct her actions...
I sincerely wish you all the the very best ... and I do believe your hearts in the right place.

Yes, reb.
I think those who have posted asking many questions and giving the benefit of the doubt to the dean are likely doing so because, like you and I, they have far more life experience than purple teen and are thus more hesitant about making such statements. It can indeed have horrible ramifications.

It will be very strange to go back to her now and ask her what she meant by that comment. As I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, she told me this before I started CLEPs: almost a year ago. But I know one of my friends who applied for next year and I told her to tell me if the dean still tells it to other girls...

Oh geez. :toetap:
Your posting a complaint about something that happened over a year ago?
Let it go.
