which school will accept tested out AA

Wow.. ok just reading through threads here and thought the Minnesota comment was really cool.

So, does this mean that if a non-resident does an online degree at UNM, that they will also be forced to accept the CLEP credits? I would assume so, but just thought I'd clarify.

Also, this is such a good idea and I hope that some other states take notice. The pressure is on to reduce college costs and what better way to do it than CLEP?

Here in CA, the CSU system (different than the UC system) made it a policy to accept CLEP's because the schools are all impacted. Each school is allowed to deviate from the recommendations, but they are all supposed to try to go along with the system. My best friend's daughter is at CSU Monterey Bay though, and they are just a gigantic pain about it. The cooperation is nil. Haven't heard what it's like at other schools yet.

In many states, public post-secondary school policy is established by an umbrella organization- this is NOT the case everywhere. Here's how you check your state:

First check your 2 year schools by typing into google <my state> community colleges. In the case of my state (North Carolina) the results pull up a direct link to the North Carolina Community College System.

If your state doesn't have a system page, you can stop there. (google Georgia for an example- they don't) States without a unifying community college system oversight will not have a transition system either. States without transition systems are maddening because you'll have to look up schools individually. In other words, there are very few unifying principles regarding transfer, acceptance, or policy.

But, if your state DOES have a community college system page, the next check is to go into that page and look for statewide articulation into the public university system. Not all states that have cc systems do this, but many do. Statewide articulations are when the ENTIRE STATE SYSTEM of all community and 4-year colleges AGREE on things. (google Colorado for a good example) In these states, credits are not re-evaluated in transfer from the 2-year school up to the 4-year schools. These are the gold-mine states. (which is the opposite of how this thread started btw, but since we've kinda went there.....)

IF all of this applies to you, THEN you can pull your credit up with you into the university by participating in one of these programs (search articulation agreement at the community college system site) and in that case, CLEP comes with the credit.
