  Intro to World Religions
Posted by: mystified - 04-05-2008, 01:05 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I did a search of the forums and found conflicting information. Some say it's easy to pass using IC and others say it's quite challenging. I've downloaded the information from the specific exam thread but it's a lot of information to memorize.

Any advice?

Thanks

Hello All,

Does anyone know what CLEPS or DANTES Exams I can take to fulfill the following requirements for TESC:

- Business Finance
- Business in Society or International Management

Also....can anyone tell me how much the following courses would be through Penn Foster College (total costs):

- Managerial Accounting
- Business Policy

P.S: Just to confirm...does TESC accept courses through Penn Foster?

Thanks in advance for your help.

CLEP/DSST Virgin - question of format and layout of exam questions?
Posted by: sailatinu - 04-05-2008, 12:03 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Well, hello there! now that I think about it, I'll add a few more questions on this!

1. Where on earth does someone find HOW to schedule the exams? I'm a 'schedule online' with Prometric or Vue kind of person; so finding sites like collegeboard which say 'Contact the test site' makes me say 'wtf? isn't there any structure!' - So any feedback on how to actually go about scheduling, various links, sites, numbers or other information would be great!

2. How are the questions laid out and formatted? If I look at the flash cards, it gives me this impression questions may be 'fill in the blank' which I despise for a number of reasons. So any feedback if they're more of the multiple choice, fill in the blank, combination, etc!

3. If I am attending a school which will no longer accept any CLEP credit for me, because I'm "maxed out", can I take the exams in any event, and upon a transfer later (Big 3, EC) have that credit apply there? Advice!

And... anything else a CLEP/DSST Virgin ought to know.

Thanks!

  Tesc & Fema Confirmation
Posted by: mlwilliamsiv - 04-05-2008, 12:03 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello All.

Is there anyone on here who can confirm whether or not TESC will accept FEMA credits for General Education Requirements?

I have searched through the forum and I keep coming up on 2 different answers. One is that TESC only accepts up to 25 credits. Two is that they will accept up to 27 credits.

I plan on getting my BSBA in Public Administration and my credit distribution requirements for this degree state that I need 9 General Education Electives, 9 Business Electives, & 18 Free Electives.

All I need to know is if TESC will accept my FEMA credits for the 18 Free Electives and the 9 General Education Electives (27 total). Then I would just take a couple of CLEPS/DANTES for the remaining Business Electives (9).

I am trying to do a complete blueprint of all the classes/CLEPS/DANTES I need to take in order to obtain my degree for this program but am stuck until I get the answers to these questions.

Also...what does an unofficial eval look like from TESC. If I send them the application fee, will they let me know all the classes I'll need to finish my degree once I receive the eval?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  TESC & Public Administration Degree
Posted by: mlwilliamsiv - 04-05-2008, 10:03 AM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - No Replies

Hello All.

Is there anyone on this forum that is going for their BSBA in Public Administration @ TESC? I am trying to do a cost comparison between Excelsior & TESC and I cannot get a complete picture unless I know all the classes I need for TESC. I just need to know what classes need to be taken to fulfill the "Areas of Study - 18 credit" portion of the Degree plan.

I am planning on choosing TESC for the following reasons:

(1) Excelsior has a WER, meaning that I will have to take the course at a community college or through Penn Foster. TESC will accept the English Composition w/ essay for 6 credits.

(2) Excelsior will only accept FEMA credits if they're transcribed through either Clackamus or Frederick Community College, and then they will only accept a maximum of 15 credits. TESC will accept up to 27 for free. (I have 25 raw FEMA credits)

(3) Excelsior requires you to take "their" exams for a few courses such as Business Policy and a few others. Excelsior is $290 per credit hour. TESC will accept their equivalents (Business Policy, et cetera) from other accredited institutions. TESC is $165 per credit hour.

(4) Excelsior only gives upper level credits for courses (300) and up & will not award alot of Upper Level Credit for Dantes exams. TESC gives upper level credits for courses (200) and up and gives upper-level credit for all Dantes exams (w/probably a few exceptions).

If their is anyone on here who can help me with this matter, that would be a great help to me. I am still racking my brain to see which college I should go with and for me it's a money issue. I like the fact that Excelsior accepts payment plans and TESC doesn't but in the end if I come out ahead at TESC, then that is where I will be. I just don't like the fact that I will have to come out of pocket at TESC for $2,397 all up front, when Excelsior only charges $1,465 and will take payment arrangements. But based on an brief analysis I did between the two for my Associates Degree, Excelsior was only around $200 cheaper than TESC. That's why I would like to know a complete blueprint of how many classes/CLEPS/DANTES exams I will need to complete for TESC to obtain my BSBA in Public Administration. Then I will do the same analysis for a BSBA in General Business for Excelsior.

Thanks in advance for your help and continued support.

  US History II question
Posted by: ssacong - 04-04-2008, 08:18 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

HI. I have a couple of questions related to US History II and in general

1. I don't intend to get near perfect score on it, all I need is minimum of 50 to pass and get a credit for my history class. How should I study?

2. Say if i fail my exam, how long do I have to wait to take it again? (like for GRE you can take a test only once a month and 5 times a year)

This is my first time to prepare for CLEP test. I wish I have known it earlier. I am graduating this summer, and I am already going to take 2 classes in the summer and trying at least not to take a history class. any advice, comment are welcome. Thanks.

What type of job did you get with your degree?
Posted by: Shadowless - 04-04-2008, 12:47 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

I was wondering, what type of job have the people who earned a degree from one of the big three schools received? What type of money are you making?

Have you found it hard to find a job using one of these three schools?

Has anyone recently taken the History II clep and if so how prepared do you feel you were for the test after studying the instantcert study guide? Are there a lot of questions that are not covered by the study guide and if so what areas should I look into? Thanks in advance.
