Leveraging German citizenship for Education/Career
#1
This feels maybe a little crass as I was naturalised under Article 116(2), which is effectively a restitution programme for the descendants of holocaust victims/survivors (direct ancestor was done in under the period of you-know-who for being a political dissident).

But I am seriously wondering how to gain some geographic, educational, and career advantage out of my second citizenship. Apply for a PhD in Government at the Hertie School (I anticipate rejection as the most likely outcome) or a comparable institution in Germany or a nearby country? Teach English in a neighbouring country (already applied)? Enlist in the Bundeswehr (I wish, but I don't speak German, yet).

What are some hidden advantages of my second citizenship that I am missing?

Totally not crass. That's what restitution is for.

As German you can enter Switzerland very easy and apply to work and stay there.

Other Features of Germany:

The political mainstream in Germany will label consider you as privileged even if you are homeless, especially when you are white, heterosexual man. This will then used to downplay or justify harsh treatment, for example when the police hunted down homeless people during curfews.

Some political activists even argue that you cannot commit war crimes against white people, as has occasionally been claimed in discussions about Russians and Israelis, even before the current war in Ukraine.

The Bundeswehr as the police is also affected by ongoing political purges carried out “to protect our democracy”. As a result, the forces are open to people who hold very critical views of Germany as a nation. In some cases, this could mean that someone who rejects Germany and wants abolish Germany as a state, sympathises with Islamist positions/hates Jews, or openly regrads Russia as an “evil empire” and sees Russians als non-humans could still end up serving in the Bundeswehr.

Hating Jews is also very common among Left and considered normal.

The Tax Office, the Police and other insituations tend to target the old white Germans and will try to extract money from them as the State is strapped for money.

Being a Christian and wearning christian symbols is very dangerous in a lot of places.

A lot of Germans are very depressed and simply resigned to their fate. So interactions with Germans can be very depressing.

Because of the Meldestellen (private instituations funded by the state to monitor dissenting opinions) Germans tend to mistrust each even each other, so it became very hard to make new friends.

According to the political mainstream in Germany this Germany is the best Germany of all times and nothing is bad in Germany, so all those things are advantages and positive.

Seeker42 always has really weird takes on German society and politics. I would take anything they say with many many grains of salt. I have seen them hop in with commentary on German society and politics on random threads where no one is discussing German society and politics, or even Germany. They made up a random statistic in another thread about some huge percentage of German youth not knowing how to speak(?) German (unfortunately I did not write down what they said or where they said it, so cannot quote directly).

I have not responded to previous things they've said about Germany because I did not want to derail topics, but am responding here because it actually *is* on topic--at least in the sense that you asked about Germany. It's not really on topic in any other sense, so I'm not responding to specifics. I do not know their political affiliation and am not saying I know it, just that their posts give me AfD vibes and in any case trollish ones (lots of perceptions thrown around as facts), so I have avoided interacting with them.
