Hi I am new here, and been reading a little through the posts.
I just took two weeks of from school to concentrate on studying for the CLEP College Mathematics. I noticed that not many of you took that one, compare to all the other CLEP available. Why is that? I am starting to think I am crazy for trying to take the Math CLEP. I am not that bad in math, but I am starting to get unsure about this one. I also want to do Intro to Sociology and the Information Systems, but wanted to get rid of the harder one first. Is IC a good way to study for math? Right now I am using the Princeton Review and Peterson (which makes me so unsure). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

IC cards are good but I have trouble learning math from it. Khanacademy.org has alot of great videos to help put functions/algebra/other stuff in perspective and is free to use. I am not a math genius and quite despise it really. I studied on and off for 2 weeks, but really studying hard for 2 days at the end and decided "To hell with it" and took it and got a 53.
Sociology was passed with 2 days of studying the flashcards/forum feedback.
Information Systems was passed with a couple days study as well, and had quite alot of overlap with MIS and Intro to Computing DSST. I recommend studying for all and take them in this order: Intro to Computing, Info Systems, MIS.

I didn't find it too hard. I just used Cracking the CLEP to study. But I still had High School math fresh on my brain, so that probably helped a little bit. If you are a paying member, look at specific exam feedback. That will be alot of help. If not, search college math. You could probably find some info that way too. Also you can go to free-clep-prep.com. They will be some free online resources listed there. Good luck!

Hey crazy_g, I'm in the same boat! I've actually been study a little over a month and I still feel pretty insecure about this Math CLEP.
I had a test date and bumped it back after a took a practice exam and did poorly. It was REALLY hard. If the test is anything like the practice, I have more studying to do.
I wish I new more specifically what's going to be required on the actual test.. if you find a thread with more specifics, send it this way!
I have Peterson's too and some videos from the library that are helpful but very broad.
I also bought the online practice math CLEP from the collegeboard website.
When is your test date?

I thought REA was a great review for this one. I used CliffsNotes Algebra II a little, too, because I was in the process of studying for the ACT, also. But the REA was, IMO, significantly harder than the real test, which made it really good preparation. Peterson's was good, too.

the Khan academy is AWESOME!
And just FYI the peterson tests are waaay too hard for this test, so don't let them discourage you!
The practice test in the Cracking the CLEP Princeton Review is EXTREMELY accurate! IC was fairly helpful for this test, it was definitely good practice for me!

Hmmm...I, also, am preparing for the College Math CLEP and although some of it seems really easy, some of it goes waaayyyy beyond what I learned in Algebra 2, which I recently completed (I am 17).
The stuff with the Venn Diagrams (complicated material, not middle school) is in the REA book and here on InstaCert and I am teaching myself how to do it, but it's difficult! I have to deconstruct the problem to get at the solution, working my way backwards from the answer, so to speak.
I am wondering if College Algebra would be easier?
BTW, I live in Florida and all the state schools here give you only 3 credits for College Math, not 6....seems kind of unfair. Now I'm thinking of doing College Algebra instead--which is easier?

I haven't taken College Algebra, but I've heard that it's way harder than College Math.

Does anyone have a good, solid suggestion for a web site (video) that explains these concepts for a non-math person like me? I prefer videos (preferably without seeing the instructor, I tend to be distracted by faces) because books lose me.
Yes, I did do a through Search but most of the suggestions are for books, and the video links are outdated.
