Excelsior Credit Banking Question

Does Excelsior award letter grades for DANTES exams on credit banking transcripts? I know they award letter grades for exams for enrolled students, but I cannot find any info that confirms they do the same thing for credit bank clients/students.

I am planning on graduating from TESC this December. I am going to start applying to different law schools soon and I want to raise my overall GPA by getting some grades for all my DANTES and CLEP exams I am taking. Law schools create an overall GPA for you by consolidating all transcripts and courses you have ever taken anywhere. So even though I will graduate from TESC without a GPA (I never took any courses from them, only exams), I want to be able to raise the consolidated GPA that goes on all my applications.

I emaild excelsior and asked them myself. Their answer has left me with more questions than before. Here is what I said, followed by their response:

ME: "My only question was whether or not credit banking (non-enrolled) clients/students also get letter grades on their credit bank transcript just like regular enrolled students."

Excelsior: "Yes, if ACE recommends a letter grade, on your credit bank transcript there will be a letter grade."



My problem with their answer is that ACE does not recommend a letter grade for any of the DANTES/CLEP exams. They only state in the national guide online this:
"Recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours are recommended for examinees with scores of 46 and above."

That does not mention any letter grade recommendation. I think Excelsior has their own method/criteria for awarding letter grades to DANTES exams, regardless of what the ACE recommendations are.

I need to know if that criteria is applied to exams scores in a credit banking account, or only to regular paying, enrolled, registered students at Excelsior.

Credit bank transcripts are awarded the same letter grades as student transcripts. I was awarded a letter grade for Alcohol and Substance Abuse. I also received grades for several CLEP exams; however, CLEP exams are no longer awarded letter grades. The current cut scores are available in the 'Student Guide to Credit by Examination at Excelsior College: The Assessment Catalog.'

When I was pursuing law school, I checked with the LSAC and they said that credit banking would not work. I believe the reason was that you aren't actually enrolling in the school. I would want to check with them first if I were you. Of course, if you've got the money to risk it, you could just try it and see what happens as EC might not differentiate it on their CB transcript.
