How does anyone know if they're succeeding academically if they aren't measured by an external party? It's just taken for granted?

And "holy cow" because... it's legal to not teach your kids history or science? I was under the impression that states had education standards.

The majority of homeschoolers even in low regulation states do testing each year (out of choice rather than requirement) and score higher than public schooled students. There is also a correlation between homeschooling and higher achievement on college entrance exams as well as better performance at college (yes, even in Texas LOL).

I find it amusing that you have concerns over the academic side of homeschooling. In this day and age the academic side is not usually in question. IME most people who have concerns over homeschooling do so regarding "socialization".
