You are 100% correct.
I applied to the Big 3 as I have a ton of Gov't schools (JST and civilian EM/HLS ACE courses). Doing 30 SH at ASU (my other option) is a waste of my time for the same degree. The Big 3 were not designed for newbies going from 0 to 120 credits. They were originally designed for older adults with many real B&M college credits and experience in career fields, but without a degree. Think 1970's. The fact that a 16 year old can enroll today is excellent, but that is a collateral benefit.
If WGU had a degree that I wanted at this stage of my career I would have applied there also. I think they are a great new option.
$3k is for students who can transfer 116 of the 120 needed credits at Excelsior.

How much you pay depends on how many transfer credits you have that apply to your degree, what discounts and scholarships you qualify for, your major, and your military status. Can someone complete an emergency management degree from scratch at Excelsior for less than $3500? Absolutely not.
