Given what you were told, if it was study.com credits on a transcript that TESU gave you transfer credit for as part of a degree earned from TESU, I would be a lot more sanguine (note that most states will only count CLEP exams that were accepted for credit from a school you took some classes at). EDIT: Let me ask you this, though- which courses are you planning on taking with Study.com?
