If you're short on money, investing $9 and 25 hours to do an ODC class for 3 credits is a deal. I'll use these all day long for my kids. If I were in a hurry, of course we'd pay $100 for a 90 minute CLEP. It's just whatever you happen to have more of at the time.
And, don't forget learning style. My 16yo is taking some Study.com courses, and doing just fine. But if she had to watch a 45min video, forget it. She'd be toast. She would not be able to take notes fast enough, I don't think (she has some learning difficulties, and writing fast is going to be an issue), and I can't imagine that she wants to pause over and over, making a 45-min video twice (or more) as long.
My 14yo would do fine, except that he would lose interest way before the video was over. If he could speed it up, he might be ok.
in the marketing class (the only one I've observed) the first video is titled "main lecture" or such, and it is 30 minutes. This class uses Great Courses, and it's really good. Then there are a few others that are a total waste of time *youtube, etc. and range from 2-7 minutes each. I've watched the Great Courses videos several times- very very good. My son always watches them on x1 (1.5 is too fast) but the youtube ones.... I think he ignores them and lets them play in the background. So far, in his class quizzes have been based on the Great Courses, but that may change- he's only about 1/2 way done I think. (my Cybercrime son does his school on his own and I haven't even asked him about them- not sure if they are the same way)
