24 RA credits is a hard stop for many alt-credit students.
Since they still take 114cr for transfer, that puts them in the Big 3.
If the 24cr of RA was a rule back then, I easily had those, so it wouldn't have made a difference. It wasn't an obstacle. Now, I personally didn't have a science w/lab course they would take, so I chose TESU. That doesn't make COSC "not the Big 3," it just made them not a good fit for me.
If you don't have 24cr of RA already, then they probably just aren't a good fit for you. But they'll still take 114cr of transfer.
Yes, they accept 114 credits of transfer but only if you already have 24 RA credits. For you, it wasn't a problem because you had those credits. But for anyone else who doesn't have them, it will be a problem and is the same as requiring 30 credits of residency, making them equal to WGU.
So maybe we should say that COSC is provisionally part of the big 3. It depends on whether you're coming in with 24 existing credits from an RA school or not.
I don't think they're equal to WGU, because WGU requires 30cr of residency at that school. The Big 3 all only require 6/7cr of residency.
As I said, some obstacles may be harder than others to overcome at a particular school - but that doesn't mean that they're not the Big 3, it just means that one school may be a better fit for you than others for different reasons. There will be plenty of people who can't go to TESU because they're not old enough, or can't get the BSIT because they can't get the science, or they don't have a BSLA and you have a lot of non-LA credits. Maybe EC isn't a good fit because you can't find enough UL credits. Maybe COSC isn't a good fit because you don't want to do a lab science, or you don't want to get 30cr of UL, or you don't have enough RA credit, or you want to get credit through a non-partner provider. The point is, everyone's situation will be different, and that doesn't change the school, it just changes whether it's the right one FOR YOU.
They all still only require 6/7cr of residency, which is the reason they're the Big 3. Period.
