SDC is good because of the variety. And it is still the only way to cheaply finish degrees at the big 3. Until last year, after the loss of Shmoop a few years ago, SDC was the absolute cheapest way to get many applicable credits. Fo RA credits, Olivet, TEL, and the cheap pandemic-inspired ASU credits did not exist.
Also, not everyone qualifies for financial aid. Without aid, UMPI is $700/mo. $410 for a month of 5 classes at SDC < $700. You'd need to be able to complete something like 10+ courses in a month at UMPI for it to "cost less" than SDC. From a purely financial standpoint, it can make sense to try to bring in as many outside credits as possible to UMPI.
That said, with or without SDC, a UMPI degree is still going to be cheaper than TESU as long as you are able to bring in everything relevant from Sophia and you are able to finish your degree in a year or less.
