"Up until Covid, I spent about 4 months a year in Asia, i have an office in Taipei and would visit mainland vendors often.
As you know, to a lessening degree lately, having a 'white face" in business dealings is a "thing" as it sends a message about the strength and scope of your company, and having a white face with a top recognized US school degree is additional status and many people are hired for exactly that message instead of much actual work or involvement in day to day stuff (not always of course, some work their bitts off). There is obviously a changing climate towards the west lately and many "white faces" have been repatriating.
regards WGU, if you have good internet and if none of their stuff is blocked or you are good enough tech wise to get around, I bet if you gave WGU a US address if you are a US citizen they wouldn't even know."
That's awesome! Great! So, you completely understand where I'm coming from and how it is here.
You're absolutely right- it's a prestige driven, appearance driven culture- which is why they insist on Harvard degrees to teach ABCs hahah. But really, parents demand to see evidence of diplomas, etc. I can attest to the fact they work me half to death. I work at the top EdTech company in China right now, and I'm the foreign "face" of the company, but they do work me pretty hard, I do have to say. No issue with that though, I'm fine with earning my keep.
I'm curious to know if anyone has done WGU online from abroad. I've not seen any posts or anything else online from someone who has, and I'm hesitant to be that person and potentially lose 3-4k over a hope. When I asked JFKU advising why they wouldn't let me continue from Beijing, they simply said that the proctor services would be blocked and I would not be able to take final exams because of that. They would not let me proceed with enrollment, even after I checked back in with them when they announced their shut down.
