If do well on the quizzes (easy 100 points) and on the lab (should be another easy 100 points) then you can completely fail the exam as long as you get at least an 11% and you'll still pass the class. This is super helpful when you're someone who knows the material but who doesn't do well with exams. If you do manage to fail the exam then you are allowed to retake it again 2x. You do not start everything over. You just redo the exam. I think you have to wait 3 days between retakes and a month of SDC includes 2 exams. This can be the same exam twice (in case of failure) or 2 different courses.
