Thank you for that.  My understanding was that a BLS can not be taken as a second degree, only as a first degree.  That’s why I wasn’t really looking at that.  I was only looking at it from the perspective of a second degree.  In particular as someone who got their first degree a LONG time ago and wants to get a second degree to possibly prepare for a Masters.  As it stands now, I am not ready for a Masters in anything.   With some more recent classes, maybe I can get ready… or realize I am not going to be cut out for it.

I think your best bet is to sign up for a relatively inexpensive UL writing course somewhere, to dip your foot back into the waters and see what you think.  Something like WRTG312: Persuasive Writing or WRTG315: Writing in the Social Sciences from BYU-IS for $654.  Yes, it's not a $100 course, but it will teach/re-teach you to write, and make sure that you are writing at a high level once you're done.  At that point, you'd probably be able to figure out if it's what you want to continue, or if you hate it so much you're not willing to do a master's program at all.

A second degree seems like a lot of work just to prepare you for a master's program, especially using the methods we have here, which are inexpensive courses without much writing (and certainly not enough to prepare you for a rigorous master's program).

Not saying that people here can't go on to a master's program successfully, because many do quite easily, but if you're not feeling prepared, I think there's better preparation than a 2nd degree using alt-credit.
