A typical college course (Butt-in-seat) is 100-130 hours, these are the above average in length due to the number of assignments or exams, experiments with labs, etc. For those easy intro, online ACE/NCCRS courses, it can be as short as 20-50 hours, but I usually recommend more than that, up to 80 hours for those upper level courses. It also depends on the students abilities and commitments, previous knowledge on the subject matter, really, there are so many factors for each person, it boils down to the course and the student study/work acumen...
