I must disagree...I believe that a teacher has a responsibility to his students beyond just teaching the course material and that is the responsibility to encourage each student to achieve their best and to foster an environment that is condusive to learning. This teacher is setting up a negative and tense vibe from the outset. As I said before, if it was an undergrad level class with young students, I could partially understand a tone like the one he chose to take, but it is not appropriate in this situation.
