Already a software engineer, degree worth it?
#41
Hey, first off, it’s really inspiring to see how far you’ve come in your career without a degree—seriously, that’s no small feat. I can totally understand the internal conflict you’re feeling. On one hand, you’ve built a solid foundation in your career; on the other, there’s that lingering thought about not having finished your degree.
I was in a similar situation a few years back. I had established myself in my career, but the idea of not having a degree kept nagging at me. What helped me was considering the long-term benefits beyond just the degree itself—like the personal satisfaction of completing something I started, the potential to open up even more opportunities, and the networking that comes with it. But I also recognized that my experience was invaluable, and ultimately, I had to balance both aspects.
Maybe think about what finishing your degree would mean for you personally and professionally. If it’s more about personal fulfillment, it might be worth pursuing. But if you feel your career is already on a solid path, and the degree won’t add much, that’s okay too. Either way, it’s a deeply personal decision, and whichever path you choose, make sure it aligns with what you truly want.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Would love to hear how you approached it.
