For the benefit of people who happen across this thread later, ALEKS goes a lot better used in combination with other resources. ALEKS is a little thin on explanation and conceptual understanding. It's annoying that what explanation is offered only comes after you've already got the problem wrong. An Idiot's Guide, videos such as the learner.org series, or even a regular textbook can make ALEKS more rewarding and probably faster.
Also, I use OneNote software in place of printing all the explanations. It saves paper and makes the notes easier to organize IMHO.
