Looking for a Bachelors in Cyber Sec
#1
I was wondering if anyone could give advice and share their experiences getting a Cyber Security Bachelors online for cheap.

I have done some searching around the forum, but I figure I can get a more personal response with my own post.

I have an AA in IT from the University of Phoenix and a Cert from them in Cyber Sec (basically just 15 extra credits from Cyber Sec courses) for a total of 75 credits. I also have a CompTIA A+ Cert.

I have looked at TESU, WGU, and COSC so far, and my primary focus is finding out:

1. How many of my credits should I expect to be usable from what I have? (I will do an evaluation with one or more of these schools at some point, still just fishing for info)

2. How many courses do I really have to take from the school? (in the interest of saving $$$)

Thank you in advance to anyone with some insight to share.

Nice, how many classes do you have to take from them?

"Students must earn at least 25% of the program competency units from WGU."
So 30 credits have to be completed at wgu. It sounds like you already have a solid headstart on a cyber security degree from WGU. I believe they have free applications so I would apply and see what they will take. Then see if there's any more classes you can complete cheap. Lots of people who transfer in a lot of their courses to wgu are able to graduate in 1-2 terms.

Check out this thread for someone who JUST started at wgu this week working on cyber security and is already making quick progress.

Also depends on when you got all of your credits in IT. WGU and TESU won't take IT credits older than 5 years old.

Either way, your best bet is WGU. Just depends on what you have to bring in, and whether or not they will give you a block transfer for your AA (meaning about 25% of the degree is done from GE's), and then if you have any of the courses completed through your AA and cert (if they are within 5 years). And then if you want to take any additional courses before you enroll (to try to make sure you can get done in 1-2 terms).

Another thing to consider, you said AA in IT but since an AA is usually a 60-credit gen ed block, I'm wondering if you don't have an AAS? Either way, I'm predicting you probably have gen ed slots open which can be very affordable (CLEP, etc.)

Edit to add: I just looked it up and it is an AA in IT, it might be helpful to post what you already have.
