Straighterline Courses
#1
All those who have taken Straighterline courses, how did y'all go about it? I am currently taking Principles of Management, Intro to Sociology, English Composition I. Some of the books are like 830 pages longSad and its almost like i have to read through all that  Is there a better way to go about it? I feel like switching the courses and taking some short and more friendly ones lol ....Please share your experiences with me. Thanks.

The method I used was to first read the chapters needed for an exam and then highlight key words and phrases. The graded exams are timed so, this helped find things. Then did the practice test until all questions could be passed comfortably. After that went straight to the graded exam. The exams pulls majority from the book. Some questions will be word for word from that lesson's chapter in the book. Other questions, key words can be use to look in the index to find what page to look for the answer. The minority of the questions on graded exams will be applied knowledge. The book will not help on these you have to use what you have learned and a little bit of google. Exams pull questions from a large database of questions. On a mid-term or final, out of 150 questions you might be lucky and get three repeat questions. That is what I did, I'm sure someone on here will have a better method.

I do it pretty much like AkaiOkami said, but with etextbook I don't highlight.
I stopped reading the entire chapters when they were long or boring, but I did what my last professor suggested, which was to read the beginning & end (especially summary) and any bold writing/ terms. I also took up to 10 or so quizzes for each chapter (if offered), saved the answers and then used the quizzes as a studyguide. Many of the questions repeated in the quizzes, so it got to be a little like IC flashcards, and I felt comfortable with the material before each chapter test. Those same questions were not on the tests, but that was okay since most tests were openbook and I was already familiar with the chapters.

The courses that I took (in my siggy) were open book, with open book finals (except for Business Comm which had a closed book final with no notes allowed).
Open book means it was allowable to have the etextbook open in another tab/screen to refer to if needed during the test. For me it was partly psychological. If I knew the book was available if I needed it, I felt more relaxed during the test and then didn't always have to use it.
