I joined the USAF, took a bunch of CLEP/DANTES tests, and a few classes locally, to get my CCAF degree. I planned to finish my 4 year degree at a local university, which kept shifting degree requirements the closer I got to graduation. Speech DANTES credits suddenly didn't count, so I took their class. Then they said I needed to take THEIR math class; didn't matter I already had College Algebra, I still had to take a math with them. Ooook, so I took pre-calc. Then suddenly my AP English credits wouldn't count, and that was when I bailed on it. I changed careers and got my Veterinary Tech. degree and license, (Thanks GI Bill! Thanks tax-paying citizens!), which was a career field I loved so much more than programming.
I had looked into Excelsior back when it was called Regents, and was all set to enroll, sent some transcripts over, and then the parents started in with "No one will hire you with a degree from 'Regents College', it sounds bad. No one will ever take an online degree seriously". I never should have listened to them, because no one ever cared where I went to school; my experience and licensing was what got me hired. Now I am self employed.
So this has become one of those thorns in my side. I want to finish it, because no one believed I could finish it, and I've had family and an ex husband actively discouraging me from finishing. It will be extremely satisfying to see that degree on the wall, and to send them all a picture of it, with me flipping the bird at them, (Ok, maybe I wont flip them the bird. Well, maybe I'll flip my ex the bird, he deserves it).
That probably seems like a silly reason, but there it is.
I actually think it sounds like a great reason--to not only prove your detractors wrong but to also prove to yourself that you can do it! More power to you! Good luck on everything, looking forward to your updates!

Straighterline English Comp I & II (assuming my AP English credits do not get me out of the comp. requirements) $140
Straighterline American Government $50
Straighterline Business Ethics $50
Straighterline Intro to Sociology $50
Straighterline Membership $100-$200 (depending on how fast I can get the classes done)
TESC Capstone $1560
Application fee $75
Course Enrollment fee $61
Technology Fee $131
Graduation Fee $312
That would be about $2500, unless I am missing something?
If you don't have 24 units of residency, then you have to pay the Enrolled Options of $3300. So the final cost would be closer to $4800.
You either have to get 7 TECEP's in there, or do the other Tuition Plan.

That's good to know - Tor specifically shows it as an Excelsior equivalent on their website.

I think it is up to each individual degree program . The school of nursing still accepts it for credit. Just not the school of liberal arts, unfortunately.

Excelsior - $3985 total, includes:
- Capstone $1470
- Info Lit at Tor College Credits $160
- College Comp General CLEP $100
- Ethics DSST $100
TESC - $3055 total, includes:
- Capstone $1560
- English Comp I TECEP $111
- English Comp II TECEP $111
- Diversity TECEP $111
- Ethics TECEP $111
- Am Govt CLEP $100
- 3 add'l TECEP's $333
So you need more exams for TESC, but it costs $930 more to do Excelsior. So your choice, time or money!
If EC will accept the free 2cr Ethics course, then you could save $100. Preserve the trust on which insurance transactions are based with an understanding of ethics ACE-approved, you could do that today.
What you listed for Excelsior only adds up to $1830. Where does the rest of the cost come from? The application fee for Excelsior was already paid, so it shouldn't be included. That's a loss whether the OP chooses Excelsior or TESC. The OP also didn't say whether or not she qualifies for a veteran or active servicemember discount. Even with the enrollment fee, I'm only getting $3390 for Excelsior. If Excelsior accepts the ACE-approved ethics course, then the cost will be $3290. I think you added the annual student fee which is only paid for subsequent years of enrollment. The enrollment fee is what you pay for the first year.

I included the Enrollment $1065 (OP said they got the eval but didn't say he/she enrolled yet), SSAF $495, Graduation $495.
Sorry if I didn't get it all right, OP please double-check my figures before you enroll anywhere. I made assumptions and went by what was on EC's website, but I'm no expert. Just throwing stuff out there.

The $100 application fee has to be paid in order to get an evaluation unless you qualify for a discount, so that's already a loss. SSAF is not paid the first year.

Just as a random comment, I was looking at the Bio of one of my CC [adjunct] online course professors and noticed he had graduated from Regents several years ago. I mentioned it to him (in a casual way) during a phone conversation and things got a tad awkward. I think it was because he probably wasn't expecting a CC student to know what school that was, or even think about where he as teacher got one of his degrees.

Crazy idea: what if I said to heck with the Liberal Arts degree, and went for a BSBA in general management at TESC? I could TECEP the Strategic Management course, which would save from having to pay $1500 for the capstone. It would be more work, but potentially less money.
I would have to take:
- Statistics (dsst)
- Principles of Finance (dsst)
- Business Law (CLEP)
- Business in Society (TECEP or DSST)
- Strategic Management (TECEP)
- Introduction to Marketing (CLEP)
- Microeconomics (TECEP)
- Macroeconomics (TECEP)
- Business Communications (TECEP)
-12 credits in the business specialization (several options there)
- whatever gen-ed requirements I may need at TESC
I have already taken College Algebra, Pre-calc, the Principles of management CLEP, the MIS DSST, and Principles of Managerial Accounting & Principles of Financial Accounting at a community college. I have a 2 freshman level accounting classes from the CC, plus some other business related DSST exams that might fill in some blanks for elective credits. That would be somewhere around $2000, depending on how TESC applies my previous credits.
Sorry if I seem a little OCD about this; I am trying to understand my options, and decide whether it's more important for me to finish as cheaply as possible vs. having a piece of paper that says "BA in English". I don't mind doing extra work if the savings are significant.
