Academic Evaluation TESC 18 credits to go... Help?
#1
Hi guys! Ace_king here Smile I just want to say thanks to everybody on this forum, I have learned A LOT!!! If I didn't find out about this forum, I'd probably still be at my local community college trying to earn my 15th credit in 7+ years. I would like to say that the way I got here was with majority of ACE credit and a couple of community college credit. I am not really a fan on CLEPing or DSST (no offense I'm just nervous with tests) and this is the way I earned my credit so far.. I have 21 credits remaining for a BA in Social Science at TESC. May not seem like a lot, however.... I'm really trying to not CLEP the rest of these credits, because I have tried CLEPing and lets say it didn't turn out so well.. I am willing to finish these courses taking other college credit online or ACE credit elsewhere. I am in the process of taking Advanced Composition at Penn Foster College to fulfill my English 2 requirement at TESC ( I verified with some one on here and they said they will accept that for it's English 2 requirement). So pretty much I need 6 courses at 18 credits. Here is my academic evaluation and what I am missing.

Now Straighterline is releasing a few more Humanities credits and also... I could take any more Social Science credits at Penn Foster that are ACE reviewed to fulfill the remaining 18 credits. Or any college offering online courses. Clovis etc. I'm not really in a rush to complete the degree, that's why I'm not trying to CLEP or anything as well...

Anyone? Thanks again! Ace_King out! Smile

This could be one option for humanities at TESC:

http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...-tesc.html
AS in 2010 and BS in 2013 at Excelsior College - Transcripts and Costs
MS Biostatistics in 2019 at Texas A&M University - Graduate School

Sharing Credit-by-Exam* and Help for Veterans
Resources Used - 20+ Exams Passed & General GRE
Practice Tests - Available for CLEP and DSST

Thanks! I just looked into it. I appreciate it! Smile

I'm having a little trouble at TESC. I called them for a couple courses I found at my local college to see if they will take them for the social science requirements I'm missing and a lady by the name of Samantha told me I had to email them for that answer? So I went ahead and emailed them and I got a response saying I need to call them for that answer? This is now a back and forth thing. All I paid for was an evaluation which was for $75, I didn't enroll to the college yet. Is that the reason why?

Ah never mind I found out why. Some one by the name of Chris told me to apply, and they will tell you the course description of it matches etc. But he did pretty much break it down for me. The only problem I'm understanding is this...

Complete 27 credits in the Social Sciences. At least THREE
> different subjects must be included for breadth of
> knowledge. A student must earn at least 12 semester hours
> in ONE subject. A maximum of 18 semester hours can be
> earned in any ONE subject area in order to have a balanced
> interdisciplinary concentration. A maximum of TWO college
> level courses equating to the 100 level can be applied
> toward the area of concentration. A deeper knowledge of
> subjects is provided by requiring that a minimum of 18
> semester hours be at the 300 and/or 400 level. **It is
> highly recommended that course LIB-495 be completed to
> satisfy 3 semester hours of this requirement.**

He was telling me I can add one more criminal justice course (from the remaining of my courses that I have at the bottom that weren't placed anywhere) but than I would need something like 300 or 400 level courses remaining for the next 9 courses. Or the remaining courses need to be 300/400 credit courses but in different subjects such as Anthropology ,Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography,History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science that I haven't done yet? Grr I don't understand that part ;/

When I completed my social science degree at TESC, I took one of the 6 credit courses Social Psychology. It was equal in work load to a 3 credit class (1 mid term, 1 final). Look into it! It counts as upper level social science.

TESC's e-Pack courses ([url=List of all e-Pack courses) are sort of credit exams dressed up as courses. (Also, priced as courses.)

TESC Wrote:After studying a section of the study materials, students take a short online quiz and receive an immediate score, plus feedback to help strengthen their weak areas. The quiz scores do NOT count towards course results and are only used to help students prepare for the final exam. Students may take each quiz as many times as needed until they are confident that they have learned the material. A particularly flexible feature of e-Pack courses is that students can study and take the quizzes at their own pace.

Course results are based on a proctored comprehensive final exam taken by the end of the semester. Once a student passes the final exam, they receive credit for the course. […] The final exam is a proctored, two-hour, closed book, multiple-choice test that includes approximately 100 questions and tests the material on all of the quizzes. The final exam questions are very similar to the questions on the online quizzes, but are not the same questions.

e-Pack courses are pass/fail (CR/NC, credit/no credit), and a transcript won't even show an unsuccessful, NC e-Pack course at all. They're structurally very similar to credit-by-exam. They'd be much more popular if they didn't cost TESC's regular full tuition!

You need 18 upper level credits (300/400 level) in the area of study. Currently, you have 9 and need 9 more. You need at least 12 credits in one subject, but you cannot have more than 18 in one subject. One more criminal justice course and you meet the 12 credit minimum in one subject or you can choose to complete at least 12 credits in another subject. Once you hit 18 credits in one subject, you need to fill in the rest of the area of study with other social science subjects.

Why didn't they place your remaining criminal justice courses in the area of study in the first place? I assumed they weren't evaluated as social science and that's why they weren't placed. I told you how I went back and forth with one advisor. Half of my CJ courses were considered applied professional, thus, could not be counted as social science courses. Criminal Law and Criminal Courts was one of them, which I thought was stupid because Criminal Law is evaluated as social science.

Ah thank you everybody for the advice. I will surely look into that Cookderosa, I wrote it down for sure! Thanks Nap for the Humanities link! E Pack courses I heard of them, will also take a look at that as well thank you Fm101!

And as always thanks Sanantone! You break it down better than the TESC advisers who actually work in the office, LOL! You're right, once I am enrolled I will surely ask! I am limited on what I can do right now because I just paid $75 on the evaluation not the enrollment fee Tongue , but I will surely ask when I enroll in the next couple of days about the remaining CJ courses that weren't applied anywhere. Thank you!

I will keep everyone updated Smile
