Yeah, they're definitely a good choice for lots of people. Unfortunately I live in a state that considers these courses as glorified CPA review courses. Probably partially due to the fact that the course materials are indeed from Wiley, AFAIK, and partially because they are not able to be applied towards an accounting degree by students at UNA. The reason for the latter is that the accounting department doesn't want the Accounting Career Program poaching their students, so to speak, but this interdepartmental politics is unknown to outsiders and probably equally uninteresting. All they know is that these courses look suspicious, like continuing education or review. 

In addition to my state's CPA board, even TESU, which is known to accept almost anything, has apparently been known to not accept UNA's ACP courses as equivalents in the past. Which, again, gives me pause given TESU's usually generous policies. Which is too bad, because the price is incredible and the institution respectable. These pros are so strong, in fact, that I'm still thinking about risking taking a course or two with them. Meanwhile courses taken at UIU, assuming they can keep themselves afloat and thus accredited for a couple of more years, shouldn't present any problems.

UNA also transcripts by the semester, I believe......while UIU's course grades are added to the transcript shorty after the course is completed.

This is critical for folks seeking to get approved for the CPA exam or licensure, as they can take the course and have a transcript ready to submit ASAP.

LSU Independent Study is another good option.

Belatedly: added basic info for this provider to the wiki! It's a great find. They have many courses that could potentially be relevant to students trying to get non-Accounting degrees. They cost a bit more than ASU, but not so much more that they're not a good source of RA credit for those who need it.

I just began my first course with them (321). It is 8 sections of coursework. The first section has an additional autobiography assignment.

All of the graded portions of the course are a 1 page current events topic review relating to the chapter unit of work assigned, and an open book quiz. Unit 1 had 2 quizzes. One quiz was 20 questions and the second was 10 questions.

Unit 4 has 4 additional end of chapter problems.

The quizzes are not proctored. I do not see anything in the grade sheet or syllabus about a final exam for this course. Maybe for other courses though. 

So really it looks like 10 or so assignments and your done.

UIU is a candidate for ACBSP accreditation, not AACSB but not bad. I applied to UIU before settling on UMPI. UIU is legit. Their name suggests they are a public university but actually are a 170 year old regionally accredited nonprofit. UIU is now completely secular, a tragedy to me but welcome by some. 

UIU accepted about 85% of my Sophia courses and their admissions officers were honest and very forthcoming with information. Not misleading like many schools. It was recently pointed out in another thread that UIU online classes aren't proctored but at least one UIU webpage says online math classes are proctored. This is important for my brother who can't access stable internet.

They also list them, and a few other popular credit by exams options like CLEP and DANTES as 'partner institutions', https://uiu.edu/admissions/articulation-agreement/  This is significant because students who transfer credit from a UIU partner get a scholarship for $1000 per year, https://uiu.edu/admissions/transfer-conn...holarship/  If you transfer from a partner with an associates degree you get $1500 per year.
