Anyone here have a DBA? If so, where did you attend?

I'm interested in applying for a DBA program. https://dba.uncc.edu/prospective-student...n-and-cost

I realize there are going to be some costs associated with such a program, but you always seem to have the inside scoop on programs that are not as bank account draining. If you have a DBA or are currently enrolled in a DBA program, I'd love to hear from you!
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

I live in Charlotte, and while UNCC has a good name, is it $85k good? I don't see it. That's one heck of a price tag imo. If I were in your shoes and had that kind of cash to spend, I'd either use it at Chapel Hill (which would certainly trump Charlotte) or somewhere with a much more prestigious name. (Edit to add, I checked Chapel Hill and they don't offer a DBA, but they do offer a PhD- so maybe not a good fit)
Not sure if you're open to distance learning, but this thread has a nice list of very prestigious options https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ne-Degrees

I'd also suggest checking out Degree Info's list before deciding for sure. https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?for...egrees.20/

You asked if anyone has a DBA, and I do not, so take my advice for what it's worth. However, I have just started doing some research for my MBA husband who will likely select a DBA program within the next 2 years.

In Charlotte as well. UNC{C}'s reputation has had some issues recently, especially with fake classes for athletes. For something high level like a DBA I would spend the money for a well known school with an excellent reputation, or you may end up being compared to MBA candidates from slightly better schools.

I was actually hoping to find another comparable program to the once at UNCC rather than attending UNCC. The price tag is a deterrent. As you stated UNC does not have a DBA course and a PhD is not what I'm looking for. I'll check out those other links and appreciate your help!

Do you know why UNCC is that expensive for a DBA program? One simple and single answer. The accreditation is AACSB. Now ask yourself, are you looking for only AACSB accreditation or will you accept the ACBSP accredited programs?

I won’t bother with schools that only have RA accreditation or with the IACBE which is the third type of accreditation, it’s the least recognized and smallest programmatic accreditation for Business. These schools sometimes will cost much less, if not always, and at least a third of the price of UNCC.

Here is an example DBA that is ACBSP and can be completely done online for $30K USD.

My understanding is that a DBA is almost entirely a degree for tenure-track professors. Is there a stigma against ACBSP accredited DBAs on hiring committees?

If you want to teach get a PhD.

The DBA is geared towards professionals in an applied setting, vs the Ph.D. who are seeking research/teaching opportunities.
I'll just use the link the OP has on his post, it distinguishes what a professional DBA vs an academic Ph.D.

My recommendation - CSU's DBA: https://www.calsouthern.edu/online-busin...e-programs
Capella's version: https://www.capella.edu/blogs/cublog/phd...fferences/
Walden's version: https://www.waldenu.edu/doctoral/resourc...ral-degree

In regards to differences between AACSB, ACBSP and IACBE. Here's the site with the answers I looked at most.

And this quote at the bottom of the page is what I tell most people: "Your best bet is to stay away from any business school that has not chosen to seek out an accreditation from either of these two accrediting bodies, the AACSB or the ACBSP."

No, DBA is a practitioner's degree. A teaching/professor track is PhD, so in my non-business mind, I wouldn't think someone who wanted to try for a tenure track faculty position would even consider a DBA since there isn't enough research, however, if you're doing a DBA and you're in industry, not sure what the big deal is about program accreditation. I am probably missing a piece, but it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm just going to respond in one message to the different postings.

Thank you for your advice.

I'm not really asking about what academic pathway I need to take (i.e. PhD vs. DBA). I'm asking if anyone knows of a reasonably priced DBA program. If you don't, it's okay to just say nope or keep scrolling.

I am informed regarding accreditation standards for business schools. I did not state that I had a preference for a certain accreditation. My concern is that I wanted a DBA program similar to the one offered at UNCC. There just aren't a lot out there. I do see one at Capella with various concentrations, but I'd prefer not to go the route of a for-profit only because they are frowned upon in my industry (right or wrong).

I also am not interested in teaching at this point. In my industry, I really could teach with an MS, but I'm not looking to do that either.

It's likely that the AACSB accreditation influences cost, but disagree that the AACSB accreditation is the only factor for the high cost. My MS is from an AACSB accredited school and it was very reasonably priced even compared to many universities that were not AACSB approved. It was less than 20K.

I am already in my industry (15 years now) and am not interested in teaching so a PhD will not serve my purpose. I want the DBA. I'll keep exploring options. Thank you for your input.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.
