Hey!
So, I'm kinda new at this. I'm fifteen years old and just signed up with InstantCert today. I've completed two years of high school (I skipped a grade) so far and I plan to do three more years of school and finish high school and college at 18 with my BA in English from TESC through CollegePlus.
I'm having trouble figuring out which CLEPs/DSSTs/FEMAs/etc. to take. Aghhh. I've made a list. By the end of this summer, I'll have taken -Western Civ I, -Biology, and perhaps -Spanish. I've heard that you can earn an entire degree completely by exams, is that right? So, here's my list. I still need to figure out what exams will actually give me credit, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to figuring out equivalents.
CLEP – Western Civilization I (3 Credits)
CLEP – Biology (6 Credits)
CLEP – College Composition (6 Credits)
CLEP – Spanish (6-12 Credits)
CLEP – Social Science and History (3 Credits)
DSST – Introduction to World Religions (3 Credits)
CLEP – Humanities (6 Credits)
DSST – Ethics in America (3 Credits)
ALEKS – College Mathematics OR CLEP – College Algebra/Mathematics (? Credits)
Can someone tell me what other exams I can take?
Thanks everyone,
Amanda (studygirl42)

Why isn't CollegePlus helping you map your degree? You're paying them thousands of dollars to do that....everyone here works for free

Haha, sorry I didn't specify. I'm going to do about a year of CLEPs before I join CP.

Are you taking any AP classes? Have you looked into dual enrollment? As a high school student you have additional options. I'm just mimicking Jennifer, she is the resident expert on this and will likely jump in and give much better advice than I.
What's the benefit of CP? I'm not sure I see what they are adding if you're doing your own degree planning? My understanding was that was the offering most students wanted from them?
Currently studying for: Still deciding.
Done!
2020 - Harvard Extension School - ALM IT Management
2019 - Harvard Extension School - Graduate Certificate Data Science
2018 - Harvard Extension School - Graduate Certificate Cyber Security
2016 - WGU - MBA Mgmt & Strategy
2015 - Thomas Edison State College - BSBA Marketing & CIS

Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place. To begin, you can no longer use FEMA for credit at TESC.
A couple of questions: Are you being homeschooled, and do you know if dual enrollment to a CC is available in your area?
Good job taking ownership on your higher education. You might decide once you have things mapped out that you don't need CP. In the meantime, in a search engine like Google, trying searching this way, for instance
English TESC site:degreeforum.net
That will bring you to threads related to what you want to do. For now, just read and soak it in, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
I'm at work right now (on break), so can't spend much time right now. Maybe other forum members can help with the equivalencies questions for your list before I can look again.

Welcome, Amanda! Great to see you starting on your college journey so early. For a BA in English from TESC you'll have to take at least a capstone class with them so that will be one you can't test out of (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
To get you started, here's a list of CLEP exams TESC accepts:
CLEP - College-Level Exam Program
Goal: BA in American Studies - COSC (103/120)
In Progress: -
Completed - Straighterline: US History 2
CLEP - American Literature
Associate of Arts - COSC (August 31st, 2014)
Classes used to complete it:
Liberty University Classes: English 101, English 102, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Introduction to Probability & Statistics
Advanced Placement: Art History
Straighterline Classes: Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Biology (w/ Lab), Personal Finance, Business Ethics, Introduction to Religion, American Government, Cultural Anthropology, Introduction to Nutrition, Introduction to Communications, U.S. History 1
CLEP: Analyzing & Interpreting Literature
COSC: Cornerstone

Amanda,
You might find this wiki file that member Sanantone did for general education options useful. There are many options and it might seem overwhelming.

Thank you for that list! I've been looking all over for a list like that.
A capstone class...what does that entail?

I went to the TESC website and searched for "liberal arts capstone." The second hit is a blog entry from a TESC employee that explains the purpose of a capstone. The course number is LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone. Different degrees require different capstones. You take the capstone toward the end of your studies, normally some of the last course credits received before graduating.
What's a capstone project and why do I have to take it
If you scroll down the forum where you posted this thread, you'll see some other threads that ask about the capstone or give a review for it.
