upper level undergrad biology online

Chadron State College is a good source of UL Math courses, and their tuition is very reasonable.

Mountain State University also has quite a few UL biology and some UL chemistry courses, but their tuition is approaching Excelsior levels (IIRC, it's 290 per cr hr).

Thanks everyone; I will save this thread! Hopefully we can find more options.

From EC Course Search:

Ohio U exams for UL math (+ other subjects) - $72 per quarter hour
Correspondence Course List

BYU for UL math (+ lots of other subjects) – $150 per credit
BYU Independent Study - University Courses

Jennifer – Since you have graduated already, I don’t know how you keep up with the changing policies. It is hard for me to do and I’m enrolled!

MS Biostatistics in 2019 at Texas A&M University - Graduate School

Has anyone here taken any of the Mountain State science courses? I am curious about the course requirements. Some of them look very interesting. Smile

NAP Wrote:Jennifer is there a specific math course you were trying to find? I could check EC's Course Search for you. They don't have a lot of UL Math results, but it would be worth a try.
I'd be interested to know who other than UIdaho offers Real Analysis and who offers Complex Analysis and Number Theory. I think Chadron State offers Modern Algebra.

Mountain State's course offerings do look very interesting. I wonder how many proctored exams have to be taken, though.

Hi Yenisei!

EC has a really neat feature that allows math majors to look up the required course options. For the ones you mentioned, I think there is something wrong with this part of the search, but I also think that there are no courses for those listed in the database. (I have asked my advisor to check on this possible issue.)

For UL Math, Course Search has options only from BYU and Ohio U (linked above).

For LL Math, Course Search also has options at EC, Franklin University (College Degree Online - College Education on Campus | Franklin University), University of Nebraska (UNL | Undergraduate Online), and University of North Dakota (Continuing Education - Online and Distance Education - The University of North Dakota).

I checked the Course Search and the 3 school websites and they did not have any of the courses you mentioned.

Mercy College (link on previous page) does list Number Theory.

Please keep us updated on your search for these classes. Several members of the forum will be interested in your results.

Thanks a lot, NAP. I will certainly keep everyone updated.

LL Math seems to have lots of options, e.g., LSU, but UL is a different matter. There seem to be more than enough UL math and science courses available to meet the TESC requirements for the Nat Sci/Math degree, but cost is sometimes a concern. I am interested in grad study in math, so I need more than just enough courses to meet the TESC reqs, and I plan to do 18 credits worth of math for the degree, which is the max allowed.

You're welcome Yenisei!

Thanks for mentioning LSU. That is a great addition to the list.

I am excited to see your interest in higher math and biochem (in another thread). I agree that cost is a concern. It has been nice to have the option of the GREs through EC. It will give me a chance to try some of these math and science areas that interest me.

Is there a specific type of math for graduate study that you are considering?

I'd prefer Applied Math (my interest is in mathematical biology and mathematical economics) but if I can't get into a good Applied Math program (UNISA would be great because of cost) I'd like to focus on Number Theory in a pure MS in Mathematics.

Also, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Independent Study has some LL and UL math courses. UL courses include Introduction to Modern Algebra and Complex Analysis. Looks like they cost 976 USD per 3 credit course.
