College Algebra -- am i ready??
#11
That's very understandable considering it's your first CLEP. I would suggest you take your time getting acquainted with the exam format presented to you at the beginning of the test, it's not timed. Also, if there's a demo of the online calculator that would be available during the test, take the time to familiarize yourself with its functions. If my memory serves me well, you also have an option to transfer the result of calculations from the online calculator into the answer field reducing the chances of error.

If you haven't tried the CLEP sampler yet, it may be a good idea to download and run, just to get a feel of the exam at the comfort of your home:

Remember not to spend too much time on complex questions, use your time wisely to answer the questions you know you'll get right first and use the spare time to return to the more difficult ones. Hopefully you won't have to, but if you find yourself running out of time, make sure you fill any unanswered question with your best guess (or any guess for that matter, it's always better than no answer with CLEPs/DSSTs)

I know it's easier said than done, but relax, it's just a test.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

Again, best of luck!

Yes, at the end of the test, you have the option of either reporting or canceling the results. You would get your score as soon as you hit 'Report Score'.

Hey folks,
I have successfully passed mine College Mathematics test with score 58. here is what i have used to prepare myself.

IC flash cards
Princeton Review - Cracking the Clep 5th edition
Peterson's online test

here are the short formula's (notes) that i memorized and put on paper before starting the test.

y=mx+b (where m is slope)

log b (y) = x ==> b(x) = y [ where ( ) means raise to power ]

if
statement: +ve A +ve B
then
Inverse: -ve A -ve B
Converse: +ve B +ve A
Cotra-positive: -ve B -ve A
Dysjunction: OR ( A or B)
Conjuction: And ( A and B)

speed x time = Distance

P(AB) = P(B) x P (A/B) [where P is probability]

in Base 2 : 1+1 = 10

Thanks guys for all your support.

All current CLEPs are pass/fail (50)

Older versions of DSST exams, paper or online, and which are still available till this day, are letter graded at Excelsior. I believe they are pass/fail at TESC (not sure about that)

You can download the assessment catalog from Excelsior's publications page if you're interested in finding out about the cut scores for the DSST exams (you'll need to complete a free registration in order to access the page)

Newer versions of DSST exams (there are currently ten of them) are pass/fail at the moment at Excelsior.

For your information, Excelsior requires at least 60 letter graded credits to list a GPA for a bachelor degree (it used to be 30).

Don't remember how COSC handles these exams.

Your first test is always the hardest. TESC and COSC do not give grades for CLEP or DSST it is only pass/fail and has no effect on GPA. ECE gives grades for some test I don'y know much about that.

Way to go, great score!!! That is my next mountain to climb. I started studying yesterday. I took a petersons practice test and got a 45. Not good enough, but something to start with. I want to take it next week but I am afraid a week+ wont be enough study. Just looking at your list of formulas blew me away. Anyway, good luck on your next test.
