Yeah, Boris Johnson is facing a lot of pressure from the far-right members of the Conservative Party. Good chance he isn’t PM anymore in a week or so; certainly won’t be if they have anything to do with it. This is pretty clearly a Hail Mary to the UK’s equivalent of the Tea Party.  Too bad politics, and the most conservative politicians at that, are once again derailing common-sense and evidence-based responses to a pandemic disease.

You say common-sense, some of us don't.  I think most countries are going to realize that Covid is over soon, and will get back to normal.  The US will as well (actually MANY states have been "normal" for the entire time).  Of course, there will be states that keep the lockdown going for as long as possible, whether it makes sense or not.  I'm sure CA and NY will give up the lockdowns when you pry it out of their cold dead hands.  But everyone else is going to get back to normal pretty quickly.  Covid is now endemic and will be with us forever.  We will have to learn to live with it like colds, flus, and other diseases.

But I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who LOVE the lockdowns and mandates and whatnot.  Many people like to have something to fear.  Many people like to make sure that government has as much power as possible (although that will all change if a new administration from the other side comes in).  The rest of us don't trust the government, and don't want them to have power over us.  We all know who we are.
