Credit-by-Exam from CSU Global!!!!!
#1
Quote:CSU-Global faculty members with terminal degrees in the content area and extensive field experience develop exam content. All exams are then proctored through an independent organization and can be completed at a local testing center or from home via a webcam (no equipment will be provided). Each 3-credit exam costs $250 and each 1-credit exam costs $150 (non-refundable). This fee covers two exam attempts within a 12 month period. If you complete the exam with a score of 70% or higher, you will receive the equivalent undergraduate college credits of the corresponding course.

These non-resident credits may be applied toward an undergraduate degree at CSU-Global or might be accepted in transfer by other institutions at their discretion. Students interested in continuing on to an undergraduate degree program at CSU-Global must meet standard admissions policies and requirements.

I wish they would come down in their pricing. $250 per 3 credit exam is a bit steep.

They're a little more expensive than a Penn Foster course, but PF doesn't offer ACE-approved courses for things like systems analysis and design and cloud computing. They are cheaper than Ohio University's challenge exams.

These are really interesting sanantone, thanks. But this passage intrigues me:
"CBEs are considered nonresident credits, and they will apply toward an undergraduate degree at CSU-Global. If you transfer to another institution, that receiving institution may or may not accept your CBE credits, at their discretion."
I read that the same as many college's "challenge exams": exams that one can take in lieu of taking the class. Around me (NJ/PA) the community colleges all have a section regarding challenge exams and they all stress that you probably shouldn't expect another institution to accept the challenge-exam-passed courses. I take it these CSU-Global CBEs are more like the challenge exams, as opposed to TECEPs or ECE/UExcels? Do we know of anyone with a track record that has gotten these CSU exams accepted at other schools? Because if so these are pretty badassed: regionally accredited and almost all upper level, including ones like you said that I've never seen test-out options for before.

True, of course...it's always up to the receiving school if they will accept any credit regardless of where they come from. I doubt these would be an issue at TESC, EC, or COSC though. And a bit pricey compared to CLEP/DSST, but not really expensive at all compared to UL credit courses at most schools.

Cool find!

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Strayer's credit by exam are only $20 paid directly to ProctorU. You take them at home via webcam. The list can be found here.

Available Challenge Exams | Strayer University

There are hundreds of courses including many accounting and IT courses which can be hard to find.

Has anyone confirmed that these transfer to TESC? How would we do this before taking the exam?

Technically, TECEPs are challenge exams. Ohio University exams are also challenge exams, and I believe the Big 3 have accepted them in the past. I'm supposed to be receiving a call tomorrow on how non-enrolled students can take these exams. Once I get that information, I will contact TESC to ask about acceptance.

The problem with the Strayer challenge exams is that you have to be an enrolled student. I know you argued that the tests you took were prerequisites for other Strayer courses, but it seems kind of risky to take those tests and to have them tell you that you need to be an official student in order to have them transcribed.
