Dantes Principles of Public Speaking

How long does it take to get the results for this test? I took the test on April 21 and I have not received any results yet. This is the last test I need to pass to get my B.S. so it is driving me crazy.

what did you study for this, anything? I am looking into taking this one but I am afraid I will do poorly on the speech, any tips?

It took FOREVER on my results. They said that the speech portion had to jump through a lot more hoops than normal exams. I did the paper test twice. Failed the speech (too short) the first time.

My recommendation is to practice quickly building coherent outlines. Also, get used to speaking in front of nobody or into a box, because that is exactly what you do. I find it much harder to speak to a box than a crowd where I am getting feedback.

I never even noticed a DSST for this exam, what exactly do you have to do?

I took it with no study and no prep whatsoever and passed it with a 55. I thought the written portion of the test was pretty difficult and I guessed through it. Ten minutes to prepare is not enought time and I fumbled with the speaking part. However, I was delighted 8 weeks later to find out that I had passed both the written parts, written and oral. It can be done cold. Maybe lady luck was on my side....I don't know. But it can done.

I took it today. It was harder then I thought. I used the DSST book at the base library. My speech subject was should the government help pay for day care for low income families. Now I just have to wait 8 weeks to find out if I passed. Next test is English Comp. No essay!! Plus History don't know which one yet any hints to which one to take?

I failed this the DSST on the verbal speech part, but passed the written portion of it. I decided to take it online with BYU , Took me only 4 weeks to finish with an A, very easy class no exams or proctors, only abot 6 speeches into a tape recorder at aboyt 10 mins on each one.

Well, I am going on 9 weeks and still no results yet. I wish I would have found this site before taking this test. I would have had second thoughts it I would known it would take over 2 months to get the test graded.

I talked to my test center today and they said you might be able to check on your score on line. Get with your testing center for the web page. Sorry I don't have it or I would have posted it for everyone. I was also told that the people grading these things are "way" behind.

Well, I guess the wait was worth it! Got my results yesterday, 56 on the written test, and I passed the speech! That is it for me, as that wraps up my BS degree. I don't think this test is that hard if you prepare well for the speech part through practice, but the 9 week wait for results drove me nuts. Just something you should be aware of before taking this test.
