Degree planning advice- Please Help!!!
#1
I've been trying to set up my degree plan for a few month's now. I'm really ready to get started knocking out my program, but honestly this site has been overwhelming. I could really use a step by step method to creating my plan. Hopefully this is useful information:

I attended a TESU webinar a few months ago and the advisor recommended that I should take as many courses with my community college as possible to save money.

I am ready to enroll in my community college but I really need to know which undergraduate program to go into in TESU.

I'm leaning towards my Associate in Arts (general studies) because I think it will be the fastest and easiest.

I am pretty much living my dream abroad already and have the job I want, but I want to prepare in advance and get my degree so that I have more options in the future.

I don't need to specialize in anything particular. I just want a cheap, fast and easy degree that's not too good to be true lol.

Please advise, thanks!!!

If you want cheap and fast, have I got good news for you! You do NOT need a full AA degree at your local community college. That is way too slow and expensive! You only need 24 RA credits (8 classes!). If your local CC costs more than $200 per class, you will want to use TEL Learning. This roadmap will help explain what's going on and what needs to be done: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...ts_Roadmap

But the very first thing you need to do RIGHT NOW is to go sign up at Sophia for $149 for the full year. This will let you knock out the rest of your gen eds (besides the 8 RA classes) - the equivalent of an AA - for $149. Check out this thread for how to get this amazing offer: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...live-again After the end of December, Sophia will be $79/mo.

So you need to take the following steps:
1. Sign up for Sophia, per the other thread.
2. Check the roadmap and decide which 8 RA classes you'll be taking.
3. Apply to TESU and enroll by paying for the $50 Medical Terminology TECEP. You do NOT need to take this test. It is simply the cheapest and easiest way to become a fully enrolled student. This step is extremely critical!
4. Start working on the gen eds you've chosen.

Also, what degree are you wanting? There are a few plans on the wiki already but we can assist if the degree you want isn't listed.

Oh, and when considering the cost of your local CC, don't forget to consider the price of books and other supplies. With TEL Learning, there is no additional cost for these things; it's all included in the $200-per-class price tag. If your CC charges $150 per class but you have to buy a $100 book then the CC actually costs more (obviously).

You just contradicted yourself.

Going to community college will be very slow and not easy and not cheap either.

The fastest and easiest credits are Sophia, you can start right now and take the first lesson for free. Do most of your courses there. TESU now requires 30 RA credits, it may be that Tel Learning is the cheapest/easiest route right now.

Nailed it. We could probably copy and paste this in response to most of the degree advice questions, as well as pin it to the top of this board, and the wiki.
Apart from the TESU-specific item in point 3, everything applies for anyone starting from scratch and wanting an expedited degree from almost any of the unis mentioned on this board. Knocking out GenEds has been made incredibly easy thanks to the info on this board; there's really no reason not to have 90% of it done within 6 months, and for absolutely minimal cost.

Wow, it's been 4 months and we're still stuck at the initial stage of starting. You really need to just take all you can with the Sophia.org courses, as you should still only have 17 RA credits. It's sufficient to get yourself an AAS from Pierpont! Just pay the transcripts and get that done, cheap/easy/fast. If you need another associates from COSC, Excelsior, or TESU, you can but I would recommend doing the Bachelors instead and get that second associates FREE. Here was my response to you a few months ago, you may want to read the other comments as well: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid316442

I'm bad with names so I forgot that OP had posted about wanting an associate's before. Since that thread, I've written up the complete process for Pierpont: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC

It's complicated by your living abroad but this is not an insurmountable hurdle. I had my degree sent to a US mailing address (there are plenty of mailing services that do this kind of thing) and Pierpont doesn't know that I'm also currently living abroad.

I'm not certain why if you were looking for cheap, you'd go with TESU over COSC (especially since they both now need 24cr of RA brought in). If they were specifically looking for a degree that TESU offered that COSC didn't, maybe. But definitely not for a BALS.

I'd also choose EC over both of those if I didn't want the hassle of the RA credit. Still cheaper than TESU.

Yeah, I wouldn't rush and sign up for TESU. First narrow down what kind of degree you want. If you can go quickly, I would do a competency-based degree and not TESU, COSC, or EC.
