Did anybody ever fail the college composition CLEP?
#11
I took a bunch of the DOD data from '09, '11, and '12 and put them into graph form and categorized it by test. Couldn't upload it to here directly so you can check it out here if ya want: DOD Pass Rates (graph form) for CLEPs and DSSTs

I wish these pass rates would not continue to be posted on here. Please realize these are the pass rates for the DANTES-funded candidates ONLY! I expect the passing rates will continue to improve as these members now have to pay out of their own pocket for each retake (so not nearly as much testing by the seat of their pants). This also explains the quantity. I have never seen a report showing the volume of testers by test name...

Yep, what BGSU said. Don't let the pass percentages scare you. I'd wager that the bulk of people those numbers pull from didn't study very much. When the exams don't cost anything, why wouldn't you just try one or two?

Every time I went to take a test, there were at least two or three servicemembers taking exams for free. They hadn't studied and weren't ashamed to admit it. It's just something they were doing to see if they could pick up some free college credits. The good news is that once they bombed the exam they started taking them more seriously, but it still results in reports like the above.

Don't let it influence your decision to take an exam or not. The fact that you're here and actually studying puts you well ahead of the pack.

The only thing I can gather is that maybe it's eiather kids who are fresh out of high shool just taking tests to try and get ahead without studying, or something to that effect. That seems like a lot of wasted money for that many people to be failing that many tests.

But what gets me though, like I said, is the low number of test takers in general.

They should be ashamed to admit they had not studied. These tests are paid for by someone - the taxpayers - therefore they have an obligation to study and not waste that money.

Preaching to the choir, but keep in mind most of these individuals were young (late teens, early twenties). I wasn't the most socially-responsible at that age either. With age comes wisdom and all that... Wink

And this is just one of the reasons that DANTES made the decision to halt funding every attempt. Unless they want to cover the $80 to retake the exam, I would think at some point they will start taking it seriously.

My former employer reimbursed only for exams that were passed. For actual college courses, they reimbursed 100% for an A, 75% for a B, 50% for a C.
